It's been a long old while since I've been here, still a great pub but still has the same problem for me; they have all those beers on and I can never choose one!
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - ESB | 5.50 | | Beautiful strong ale. |
Fat Cat - Stout Cat | 4.60 | | Decent stout, just a little thin in the mouth. |
Fox - IPA | 5.20 | | Was expecting more but drinkable IPA nonetheless. |
18 Jul 2012 (HSB)
A friend's seventieth birthday celebration so we had the separate room to ourselves.
Crouch Vale - Yakima Gold | 4.20
Otter - Bitter | 3.60 | | |
Green Jack - Summer Dream | 4.00
Green Jack - Mahseer IPA (superseded by 5.8% version) | 5.00
Oxfordshire Ales - Finest | 4.50

Good to be back in here again, it has a great atmosphere and great beer to boot. 28 ales on but strangely it's very hard to actually choose one, the list isn't exactly inspired. Grabbed a table in the side room and sank a couple.
Fat Cat - Honey Mild | 3.60 | | I really enjoyed this. A rich and sweet mild with lots of chocolate and a little honey. |
Fat Cat - Marmalade Cat | 5.50 | | Nice fruity ESB. Went down well. |

Wow! This pub is fantastic. We counted 33 ales on the go when we were in. It was so difficult trying to choose what to go for. Great atmosphere and great locals. I can't wait to visit Norwich again, just to come here.
Fat Cat - Top Cat | 4.70 | | I really liked this. malty and fruity, exceptionally smooth. Top Cat indeed. |
Adnams - Tally-Ho | 7.00 | | Over a year olf apparently. Very nice. Lots of rasins and brown sugar. A little tartness. Top stuff. |
Spectrum - Dark Fantastic | 3.50 | | Not fantastic in my opinion, in fact fairly ordinary. Dark ad sweet. Not much else. |
Greene King - Ruddles County | 4.30 | Not Tried | ??? |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - ESB | 5.50 | Not Tried

We walked back towards our B&B and stopped off at the Fat Cat as the Jaipur IPA was supposed to be on. It wasn't raining, which was the first time I've been and it hasn't been pouring. There were lots of smokers outside which meant we still got a seat on a Friday night around 9pm
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur | 5.90 | | Good, but colud be hoppier and a bit too cold. Mind you, I still had a pint and a half of it. |
Williams Brothers - Kelpie | 4.40 | | Black, lasting beige head. That is an arresting beer. Liquorice stout aroma. Good condition, distinctive spicyness on finish. It's a slightly sour, liquorice stout with a dry spicy finish. No real saltiness. Fine and definitely interesting. |

It is a bit of an odd pub. It can feel a bit transient. However, we sat chatting with a local couple who were very nice and also with the landlord. Good range of beer, but also with a very safe standard range of beers too. Still if I had this pub round the corner, I really wouldn't be complaining. Andrew and myself took some time here, drinking fairly slowly.
Hopstar - Smokey Joe's Black Beer | 5.20 | | Black, thin beige head. Really quite a complex beer. Fennel, bitter choc, espresso coffee, quite sour and lactic in mouth, liquorice and this amazing lasting finish that doesn't stop. No real hop presence. Pretty intense. |
Fat Cat - Honey Cat | 4.30 | | Gold, lasting white head. Quite full in mouth. Little bit of sweetness from the honey. Good hop on end. Good use of English hops. Quite perfumed and fragrant. Very drinkable. I liked it a lot. |
Fat Cat - Meow Mild | 4.30 | | Dark ruby, disappearing beige head. Decent choc and damosn aroma, not a lot of condition, very good choc and blackberry/sweetish black cherry flavour in mouth. Smooth choc finish. Fine and the choc/fruit is good. |
Milestone - Homewrecker | 4.90 | | It was advertised the first night as Headbanger, but it changed on the second day to Homewrecker and that is what is on Beermad.org.uk so it is good enough for me. Ruby colour, thin beige head. Good dark malts, like a strong dark mild, quite lively in mouth. Surprisingly good. Very choccy, a little one dimensional, doesn't drink 4.9% |
Winter's - Storm Force | 5.30 | | Hazy copper, disappearing beige head. Fruity strong bitter. Tangerine, orange fruits. Bit of tea. Really rather good veg/hop finish. Pretty good |
Tipple's - Ginger | 3.80 | | Deep gold, thin white head. This has got a lot of ginger in it, a lot of stem ginger flavour on finish. Rest of beer is pretty light. It's fine and if you like ginger you're gonna like this. |
Fat Cat - Marmalade Cat | 5.50 | | Amber, disappearing head. It's got quite a syrupy golden syrup flavour, bit of demerrara sugar. Decent hit of hop on finish. Quite full in mouth. A strongish golden bitter. I really like the hop on the finish. |
Iceni - Cranberry Wheat | 4.10 | | Orangey/red colour with lasting thin pink/white head. Not a huge aroma. Some cranberry fruit in mouth. It's alright. Not much cereal. Some hop presence on finish. It's fine. |

This pub has a massive range of beers. However, most were major regionals. Due to the smoaking ban most people were outside so we got a seat near the bar.
Fat Cat - Fat Cat Bitter | 3.80 | | Pale orange gold. Good marmalade body with sharp earthy hops on the finish |
Woodforde's - Wherry | 3.80 | | Tired |
Fat Cat - Top Cat | 4.70 | | Rich sharp syrup with earthy hop and burnt sugar edge. |
Fat Cat - Marmalade Cat | 5.50 | | Deep orange brown with good head. Overpowering burnt sugar with hint of whisky. |
Hopstar - Smokey Joe's Black Beer | 5.20 | | Smells of milky coffee. Sweet sour bite with fenel, coffee and milk. Too cloyingly sour milk for me. |
Hop Back - Summer Lightning | 5.00 | Not Tried
Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | Not Tried
Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | Not Tried
