Visits Details
21 Jan 2018 (Jack William)
A rare lunchtime opening due to the “winter wobbler” 5 mile walk (in very wintry weather conditions). I just came early for the Uberhop. Same other two beers on from Friday’s visit as well.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - ÜberHop | 5.20 | | Strange choice to brew this very summery ale only In January. But very nice all the same. |
19 Jan 2018 (Jack William)
Early evening - a few regulars in. Gadd’s Uberhop is next on.
| Rudgate - Battle Axe | 4.20 | | Trad bitter in good nick. |
| Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Miller's Ale (originally 4.5%) | 4.20 | | A fruity ruby. Good winter warmer. |
10 Jan 2018 (Jack William)
Evening - a good few familiar faces.
| Rudgate - Parcel O’ Rogues | 4.10 | | Lovely beer in very good condition - no idea about the name though. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | |
08 Nov 2017 (Jack William)
Evening for the Literary Society meeting (book club). The pub was packed - over 20 in - lovely atmosphere.
| Milestone - Rich Ruby | 4.50 | | |
| Romney Marsh - Rye Mild | 3.20 | | Aquired taste - but very pleasant in the end with the rye bite. |
20 Oct 2017 (Jack William)
Early evening. Fire in the snug. A few familiar faces.
| Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Green and Gold | 4.80 | | Marked up as 5.2% perhaps a bit more poke for the 2017 brew? Very nice - I fancied that I tasted molasses. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | Not Tried | |
13 Sep 2017 (Jack William)
Over for the book club tonight. Jolly load of locals.
| Dark Star - Revelation | 5.70 | | This really packs a punch of flavour. |
| Brentwood - Shrimpers Gravesend Pale Ale | 4.00 | | A lovely light hoppy brew. |
24 Jul 2017 (Jack William)
Monday evening - cycled here to listen to a couple of the locals read their own poetry - very good; culture in one bar and plenty of good conversation in the other.
| Loddon - Gravesend Shrimpers Bitter | 4.10 | | A very tasty pale ale. |
| Burton Bridge - Bridge Bitter | 4.20 | | |
30 Jun 2017 (Jack William)
Arrived just before 5 for the beer festival. The village fete setting up opposite. A handful in the bar to start with but by 6 it was heaving inside and out with live music on the doorstep. Six beers on to start with and a further six to come on over the next two days.
| Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | | Spot on. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Summer's Day | 4.30 | | A fairly dark amber ale, full of flavour. Surprising name given the colour. |
| Skinner's (now brewed by Goodh) - Porthleven | 4.80 | | Good strong flavours, great condition. |
| Butcombe - Bitter (or Original Beer) | 4.00 | | Very pleasant. |
| Long Man - Long Blonde | 3.80 | | I usually really like this - but it tasted rather bland after the others. |
| Arbor Ales - Blue Sky Drinking | 4.40 | | Ok - but didn't really grab me. |
24 May 2017 (Jack William)
Early evening - my first English pint for more than 10 days. (Have been in Russia - but can't yet add my lone entry - waiting for Russia to be added as a country!)
Lots of locals enjoying the sunshine.
| Phipps NBC - Midsummer Meadow | 3.90 | | Lovely - just suited the early evening sunshine perfectly. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dr Sunshine's Special Friendly English Wheat Ale | 4.20 | | End of the barrel. |
07 May 2017 (Jack William)
Sunday evening 1850 - told off for arriving early while, the vacuuming was being done - but got served anyway.
My first ever visit on a Sunday- didn't realise they had kept quaint opening times on the sabbath.
Gradually filled up to about 15 in the next hour. Jolly banter.
| Romney Marsh - Amber Ale | 4.20 | | |
| Stonehenge - Sign of Spring | 4.60 | | Bright green - bit flat unfortunately. |
