Visits Details
18 Nov 2016 (Jack William)
Beer o'clock - a few regulars in. The variety of ales continues to be impressive - only two or three at any one time - but an impressive range over time.
Fyne - Highlander | 4.80 | | A nutty, full bodied ale. |
B&T (Banks & Taylor's) - Aragon | 4.70 | Not Tried
18 Oct 2016 (Jack William)
Swift one and a half before 6. Three regulars in and a visiting CAMRA scribe. First coal fire of the season on the go.
New beers for me - they keep coming here.
Heritage (formerly William Worthington Brewery) - St Modwen Golden Ale (superseded by 4.2% version) | 4.10 | | A really nice hoppy note, with good body, in excellent condition. |
Spey Valley - David's Not So Bitter | 4.40 | | A bit flat - getting toffee flavours. |
12 Aug 2016 (Jack William)
Beer o'clock - entertainment provided outside by the local ducks playing "chicken" with the cars on the corner.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Summer's Day | 4.30 | | Fresh on - a beautiful pint to be enjoyed in the sunshine. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | | A favourite with the locals - so much so that it came to an end within three days of going on apparently - but was swiftly replaced by Summer's Day. |
Windsor & Eton - Windsor Knot | 4.00 | | Had been reduce to £2 a pint - had a sip - I'm guessing an "acquired taste" and no competition to the Gadd's. |
Orkney (Sinclair) - Red MacGregor | 4.00 | Not Tried
31 Jul 2016 (Jack William)
Early evening - locals enjoying the sunshine on the bench outside - Chilli Farm festival packing up nearby. 2 weeks away and I have missed my "after work" venue. Nice to be back.
Long Man - American Pale Ale | 4.80
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Thomas Crampton Bicentennial Ale | 3.80 | | Delicious brown ale with a lovely dry finish. |
Phipps NBC - Steam Roller | 4.40 | | Pleasant enough, but a little lifeless. |
25 Jun 2016 (Jack William)
Late afternoon - beer festival ongoing despite the inclement weather. Not a large selection of beer - although promise of more variety later. Nice three piece band playing some classics.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - She Sells Sea Shells | 4.70 | | Crisp and hoppy. lovely pint. |
Windsor & Eton - Knight of the Garter | 3.80 | | Pleasant enough, fresh and lively. |
Yeovil - Star Gazer | 4.00 | | Mildly malty. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Summer's Day | 4.30 | Not Tried
Yeovil - Ruby | 4.50 | Not Tried
Black Hill - Brigadista | 4.30 | Not Tried
17 Jun 2016 (Jack William)
Friday, beer o'clock, usual suspects in.
Note: beer festival here next week Fri to Sun with extended hours opening.
Windsor & Eton - Windsor Knot | 4.00 | | Wonderful pint - new barrel, in perfect condition. Gorgeous hoppiness with just a hint of peaches? |
Black Hill - Brigadista | 4.30
27 May 2016 (Jack William)
After my two short visits elsewhere just had to get to a proper pub. Handful of regulars - you can now follow the pub on Twitter to see the current beers - thankfully everything else is still very much mid 20th century.
Black Hill - Brigadista | 4.30 | | This is badged as a Spanish Civil War Ale - I don't know much about the Spanish Civil war but I find it hard to believe that they had the time, climate or the inclination to create English-style real ales!
Had a discussion with another customer as to whether it was subtle or bland - I quite liked it. |
Hopdaemon - Anzac | 4.60 | Not Tried
Twisted - Gaucho | 4.60 | Not Tried
18 May 2016 (Jack William)
Beer o'clock - just the three of us in - but a full turnover of beer since Friday.
Frome (formerly Milk Street) - Amarillo | 4.30 | | Gorgeous honeyed flavour with plenty of body. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | | Sparklingly clear - but not memorable - just a taster. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - She Sells Sea Shells | 4.70 | | Little cloudy but good summertime flavour. |
13 May 2016 (Jack William)
Welcome pint after a cycle from Dover with a final lung busting climb up from Lydden. One other beer on - not noted.
It's like supping a rainbow drinking here lately.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - East Kent India Pale Ale | 6.50 | | Too strong for the locals to finish in a week - so this was at £2 a pint - would have been rude not to. |
Dark Star - Wheat Purple | 4.20 | | Has blackberries added apparently - different but not my favourite DS beer by a long way. |
19 Apr 2016 (Jack William)
Early evening - a few locals in - all of who encouraged me to try the Sign of Spring ...
Stonehenge - Sign of Spring | 4.60 | | Unbelievable colour - it really is bright green. Close your eyes and it tastes like a dry, crisp and reasonably pleasant bitter. Not a bit like Medinite. |
Saltaire - New World Red | 5.20 | | Pleasantly nutty. |
Moorhouse's - White Witch | 3.90 | Not Tried
