27 Apr 2017 (Jack William)
Last chance for an after-work drink here as I retire tomorrow. Friendly faces and good banter as usual.
I consider myself a regular here - but not a local. My test is that you can only be a local if you can walk to the pub from your house - I intend to rectify that next month!
| Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Easy Rider | 4.30 | | I'm getting a hint of peach and a good after-bite. The locals aren't keen on it but I like it. |
| Romney Marsh - Amber Ale | 4.20 | | |
27 Mar 2017 (Jack William)
Early evening - just the three of us but talk of advanced calculus and auctions of Victoria sponges accompanied our supping nonetheless.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dr Sunshine's Special Friendly English Wheat Ale | 4.20 | | To match the evening sunlight streaming in through the open door. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | |
08 Feb 2017 (Jack William)
Beer o'clock swift one - ringing the changes again with the ale selection.
| Kent - Prohibition | 4.80 | | Very good citrusy pint in excellent condition. |
| Grainstore - Phipps NBC Red Star | 3.80 | Not Tried | |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - ÜberHop | 5.20 | Not Tried | |
20 Jan 2017 (Jack William)
Beer o'clock 1 of 5 early doors.
| Skinner's (now brewed by Goodh) - Lushingtons | 4.20 | | Like this - even in midwinter. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | Not Tried | |
| Dark Star - Festival | 5.00 | Not Tried | Coming soon |
12 Jan 2017 (Jack William)
Early evening - pouring rain and the threat of snow doesn't deter me from getting a decent pint after a week away. One other hardy soul in. Blazing fire. Promise of some Gadd's ÜberHop in the cellar.
| Fyne - Highlander | 4.80 | | Well balanced amber ale in good nick. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | | Not at its best. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | Not Tried | |
22 Dec 2016 (Jack William)
Beer o'clock - last day at work before xmas so had to have a pitstop here. Handful of regulars in, nice.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Little Cracker | 5.00 | | So much better than the Robin - great depth and body. |
| Rockin Robin - Blizzard of Oz | 4.50 | | A fair "winter warmer" - but nothing special. |
| Orkney (Sinclair) - Red MacGregor | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
05 Dec 2016 (Jack William)
Monday beer o'clock (I like to vary it sometimes). A few in - we enjoyed the tasteless musical Santa-In-a- snowstorm bar display for nearly a minute.
There is now a swearbox with a £1 fine for mentioning the 'B' work - "Breakwater". I fear that I have been partially responsible for this.
| Skinner's (now brewed by Goodh) - Porthleven | 4.80 | | Delicious. Pale, zingy, fresh - as it says on the pump clip. |
| Long Man - Long Blonde | 3.80 | | |
25 Nov 2016 (Jack William)
Early evening. A few stalwarts in - talk of the new brewery - Breakwater - due to open soon in Dover.
| Bragdy Twt Lol - Glog | 4.00 | | Nice dryness, straight from the barrel. |
| Rockin Robin - Reliant Robin (superseded by 3.7% version) | 4.20 | | Fresh on - pleasant enough, but rather plain. |
| Georges - Broadsword | 4.70 | Not Tried | Last one out as I supped my Glog. |
18 Nov 2016 (Jack William)
Beer o'clock - a few regulars in. The variety of ales continues to be impressive - only two or three at any one time - but an impressive range over time.
| Fyne - Highlander | 4.80 | | A nutty, full bodied ale. |
| B&T (Banks & Taylor's) - Aragon | 4.70 | Not Tried | |
18 Oct 2016 (Jack William)
Swift one and a half before 6. Three regulars in and a visiting CAMRA scribe. First coal fire of the season on the go.
New beers for me - they keep coming here.
| Heritage (formerly William Worthington Brewery, now brewed at Burton Bridge) - St Modwen Golden Ale (superseded by 4.2% version) | 4.10 | | A really nice hoppy note, with good body, in excellent condition. |
| Spey Valley - David's Not So Bitter | 4.40 | | A bit flat - getting toffee flavours. |
