Jack's last review pointed out this beer festival and (most importantly) the pub was open at midday, not 5pm. So here we are. What a great pub. Proper old school.

Back in the UK after nearly 2 weeks - needed a decent pint of real ale. Note: BEER FESTIVAL here next weekend. Ales @ £4 a pint. Extended opening times: Friday 27th June from 3 pm (village fete on The Green from 5} Saturday and Sunday open from 1 pm. Acoustic music festival on The Green from 1 pm Sunday.

Early evening visit to check on the pond progress - all tead6 for the liner to be fitted. Hopefully this will soon chance the al fresco experience of the pub. Good session in the pub with plenty of regulars.

Mid-afternoon, very quiet initially but filled up quickly (the locals here probably aren’t good with times changing - clocks went forward last night). Bright green “ Sign of Spring” making its annual appearance.

Wednesday night book club. 13 of us in the little bar and at least that many in the main bar. Rachael coping admirably despite running low on glasses and moaning like f***. Great to see this pub continuing to thrive.

The pub is found in Coldred, Kent, CT15 5AJ.

In The Green, a rare 2 bar survivor of a traditional village boozer with roaring fires when appropriate. This pub is listed in the CAMRA National Inventory of unspoilt pubs. The pub boasts three skittle teams using the outdoor skittle alley. The landlady, Daphne Fagg (85) had been running the pub for over forty years until she recently passed away and the pub is now run by her son Colin. The pub does not normally open at lunchtimes, except by prior arrangement. Real ales sold via three active handpumps and bartop casks on gravity stillage. Deal, Dover & Sandwich CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year 2015.
