First customer in on a Saturday lunchtime, soon filled up and all of the seats were taken by the time I left two pints later. The atmosphere was relaxed as always and the staff first rate. There was also a new beer called 2012 on to make up the 7 handpulls but I didn't note the strength to add it.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Street Light Porter5.80ExcellentFantastic dark ale (not black, more dark brown) but with superb choc/malt/coffee smoothness.
Canterbury Brewers - Le Petit Belge4.40ExcellentReally rather excellent golden ale. Sweet in the mouth (pear drops and grapefruit) and bitter in the finish. Perfect balance. Lovely.

Canterbury Brewers - Kobold5.00Not TriedI had a try of this. It smelt a bit weird, but didn't taste too bad - a black lager..dunno put me off a bit.

This pub keeps getting better and better. The smell of hops filled the pub which I think adds to the experience. Beer was great and the bean and lentil pie was top notch also.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Street Light Porter5.80ExcellentVery good porter.
Canterbury Brewers - Kobold5.00ExcellentA black lager. Had a real smoky background to it but also exceptionally smooth. Great beer.

Friday afternoon, great place to be for the best beer selection outside of a festival. 7 hand pumps, 4 keg pumps of house beers plus Kronenbourg, Strongbow and Fosters for the "others". Vibrant atmosphere even though it was only 5.30 by the time I left. Upstairs was already full of student types. I was at the bar when a girl of about 19 or 20 asked for a pint of Raspberry beer, the barman, instead of asking to see her ID card, asked her if she was a member of CAMRA so she could have a 10% discount! Top stuff from a top pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Hoppin Belgian6.80ExceptionalI was told by the outrageously well-informed barman that this is brewed with Citra and Magnum hops and dry-hopped with Morteuka New Zealand hops and uses a Belgian yeast. That's as maybe, but this is a massive beer. Get it while you can.
Canterbury Brewers - Street Light Porter5.80ExcellentSuperb stout. Sweetish but not too much. Choc/coffee balance was just right.

Excellent pub. Busy Friday lunchtime. Bar girl extremely helpful with knowledge of beers and sampling. If only Wetherspoons could train their staff so!

Jane hadn't been before. Interesting mix of clientèle from, what looked like, students out for a pre-club night out to CAMRA types sampling the beers. Lots of thumping music upstairs with a DJ.

Came in to meet John but his dinner was delayed so I met him later. Sat at the bar and watched the comings and goings. Most people were drinking the Foundry's own beer - as you'd expect given that it's excellent stuff.

Probably the best time I've had here. Sometimes I need a weekday afternoon to sit in a pub to enjoy it the most. Odd day with lots going wrong and lots of expense, which meant I wanted to treat myself. Bar staff recommended the half rack of ribs in St Louis sauce which was excellent and then Tom (co-brewer) kept popping in and out having discussions about pubs and beer. Sat writing postcards and reading Terry Prachett and thoroughly enjoying myself. Good times.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Aged Wee Heavy7.90ExcellentRich malts, hops on the finish. A satisfying meal of a beer and no alcohol heat at all. So lovely. The cask version in Jura barrels should be a real treat launched on 25/01/2012

Brewery tap for Canterbury Brewers. The brewery is inside the building and may be viewed through an internal window. Upstairs and ground floor bars with the latter always open. 7 handpumps sported in each of the 2 bars. Substantial discount on real ales for Card carrying CAMRA members - at April 2013 this was 10% on own brewed beer - ask if there is a discount on food too as this is allegedly 10% too. Consists of two bar areas - one downstairs adjacent to the brewery and another up some steps to a mezzanine level. Originally located in White Horse Lane near the Cherry Tree pub. In addition to its excellent home brewed ales the pub is getting a reputation for tasty and good value food. Moved in October 2018 to a new location in Stour Street "lock stock and barrel".

We have visited this pub 144 times, seen 99 different beers and tried 74 of them.
