Here with Adrian showing him the new sites of the old town. Busy and we only had a couple of hours so they were swift!

1400 and a decent crowd in, mainly diners, but we propped ourselves against the left side of the bar and, this long-awaited session began...
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Street Light Porter5.80ExceptionalI think this is there best ale.
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Black4.00ExceptionalThis replaced the Street Light Porter and was equally impressive. Smooth, dark, rich roasted notes. I also compared this to the font version, which was just as good, giving it a true continental taste. In fact, this bar could be anywhere in Belgium. It's that good?
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Torpedo4.50Excellent
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Man's Gold4.00Excellent
Canterbury Brewers - Canterbury Haka4.10ExcellentWell pronounced NZ hops.
Canterbury Brewers - Biggleton's Brown Ale3.80ExcellentVery nice.
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Helles4.10ExcellentLager type and very good. The font version was also spot on, as were the Steam Beer 5.4% and the Red Rye 5.6%.

Came to see Ian and Martin. There were already there with Ian mesmerised by the Helles!? He made me try it on Cask and on Tap; neither were any my cup of tea so I passed them on to him and had his Torpedo instead - and much better it was too. Later, I saw Ian pouring the tap Helles into a half drunk pint of the cask version. I guess when you love the idea of a beer that much it doesn't really matter what it tastes like ;)

Busy with diners on Christmas Eve lunchtime.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Helles4.10ExcellentExcellent lager style beer, rich gold in colour with a soft maltiness and restrained slightly citrus hoppiness. My score 16/20.

1630 and all is quiet. Finally made it here. Wow? What a bar. Canterbury's best kept Real Ale secret? Very impressed with the enthusiasm and knowledge of the staff. Plenty of free tasters sampled from the host's, but only time for 3 swift halves today. A return visit will be made very soon...
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Street Light Porter5.80ExceptionalA stunningly good porter. Very complex, deep roasted notes.
Canterbury Brewers - Steam Lager5.20ExceptionalSuperb.

Fast becoming my favourite place to be in Canterbury. Got here about 3pm when most of the customers were finishing their Sunday lunch. Sat at the bar and had a couple of excellent beers. Would have stayed for more but for the car.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Black4.00ExcellentReally excellent stout type thing. Quite thin in the mouth but big coffee, dark chocolate flavour which makes it really drinkable.
Canterbury Brewers - Single Hopped Pale Ale - Challenger4.60GoodAnother really good golden ale.

Got here 5 mins after opening. I had a half day off work and 2 hours in Canterbury before having to go home so a few pubs and a few halves were in order. It's an odd feeling watching a pub open whilst listening to Christmas music and drinking hoppy beer. Customer service in this pub is excellent as is the beer.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Single Hopped Pale Ale - Challenger4.60AcceptableLight brown. Striking leafy bitterness. Extreme grapefruit rind and hints of Turkish delight. Excellent condition but just too much of a blast in the mouth for me.

Late afternoon and not too busy. Julian had the Single Hopped beer on at The Lifeboat in Margate, but it ran out as he poured it. So I had to come here and get some. Sat at the back with my pint and reflected on my day cycling through Margate and Westgate
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Single Hopped Pale Ale - Challenger4.60ExcellentSolid pale ale with a shed load of hops. Really hoppy and bitter on finish. Excellent. Fresh cask on. Tasty as hell. In smooth fantastic condition. Mid gold with lasting beige head. Hoppy as hell and a real tongue ripper. Lovely.

Met up with Andrew. I was told that it would be all loud music on a Friday night and lager drinkers, but I still found it a pleasant place to relax after a long week at work. Best beer? The Canterbury Steam on tap.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Steam Lager5.20GoodI liked it on tap and cask. Tap was better for me.

Brewery tap for Canterbury Brewers. The brewery is inside the building and may be viewed through an internal window. Upstairs and ground floor bars with the latter always open. 7 handpumps sported in each of the 2 bars. Substantial discount on real ales for Card carrying CAMRA members - at April 2013 this was 10% on own brewed beer - ask if there is a discount on food too as this is allegedly 10% too. Consists of two bar areas - one downstairs adjacent to the brewery and another up some steps to a mezzanine level. Originally located in White Horse Lane near the Cherry Tree pub. In addition to its excellent home brewed ales the pub is getting a reputation for tasty and good value food. Moved in October 2018 to a new location in Stour Street "lock stock and barrel".

We have visited this pub 144 times, seen 99 different beers and tried 74 of them.
