Big works party in. Sat at the back with Ian and watched the dynamics.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Black4.00ExcellentWas expecting lots of chocolate flavours and after having had the Brown I was pleased not to find them. Nice burnt malt with some chocolate notes.
Canterbury Brewers - Biggleton's Brown Ale3.80GoodBrown beer with heavy chocolate flavours. A touch sickly for me.
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Torpedo4.50AcceptableUmm, I think the recipe has changed. This was quite pulpy with strong passion fruit and melon flavours. Gone was the great ripping leafy hop profile.
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Man's Gold4.00Not Tried
Canterbury Brewers - Scrumpkin4.60Not TriedI tried a taster. Heavy clove flavours.
Canterbury Brewers - Steam Lager5.20Not TriedTried some of Ian's. He thought it was superb. I thought it was awful - but then I don't like lager.

Mid Saturday afternoon and a decent fullness about the place. Ran into a couple of work colleagues. Really good bar staff, offering samples to people who hadn't had the beers before from their own kit.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Biggleton's Brown Ale3.80ExcellentBrown orange colour slight haze lasting beige head. Good brown Malts with a touch of aggressive bitter hops too. Tasty half mild half brown ale with this brewery's distinctive bitterness on the finish. Good full tasty malty brown ale.
Canterbury Brewers - Scrumpkin4.60Poordark brown with lasting beige head. spice aroma. Heavy on the cloves which is one spice aroma i don't like. Ugh. Beer is fine but i hate cloves.

(Sigh) I needed a pint. Were they playing jazz? Possibly. I was in too much of a daze to really tell.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Canterbury Haka4.10ExceptionalThis was phenomenal. Light summer fruit flavours perfectly complemented by a fantastically drying, leafy hop finish.

I was asked if I wanted to try the beer before I bought it; I was asked if I was in CAMRA because there was a discount; in other words the service here is great!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Street Light Porter5.80ExceptionalWhat a great beer this is. Black with all that vinous toastiness you get with Larkins Porter but with some great dark chocolate and chocolate powder notes.

Stumbled across the team from Egham Club collecting the casks for their Summer beer festival.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Summer Wheat5.00AcceptableNot a great fan of wheat beers but this was competently done. Although not really to my taste there was good hop character but a very dry finish. My score 14/20.
29 Jul 2011 (Ian)
I came with three empty 2 pint plastic milk bottles to fill up with each of the beers to take to a beer tasting in London on the following day. I do like this place and feel very at home here. Plus I got a 10% Camra discount.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Torpedo4.50ExcellentSuch a bitter bitter. Hits the spot. I actually wake up in the morning and think, "You know what? I fancy a pint of Torpedo today." First time that's happened with a beer in quite a while.

Quite busy even though it's off the high street. Disappointing to see so many people either drinking Fosters or wine. Anyway I sat at the bar and drank Torpedo.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Torpedo4.50ExcellentI'd have given this a 5 out of 5 if it wasn't for the fact it was way too cold.

Had a swift pint before heading back home as the rain was descending on us. I do like this place but I was disappointed to see exactly the same ale lineup as the last time I was here.

Brewery tap for Canterbury Brewers. The brewery is inside the building and may be viewed through an internal window. Upstairs and ground floor bars with the latter always open. 7 handpumps sported in each of the 2 bars. Substantial discount on real ales for Card carrying CAMRA members - at April 2013 this was 10% on own brewed beer - ask if there is a discount on food too as this is allegedly 10% too. Consists of two bar areas - one downstairs adjacent to the brewery and another up some steps to a mezzanine level. Originally located in White Horse Lane near the Cherry Tree pub. In addition to its excellent home brewed ales the pub is getting a reputation for tasty and good value food. Moved in October 2018 to a new location in Stour Street "lock stock and barrel".

We have visited this pub 144 times, seen 99 different beers and tried 74 of them.
