Arrived at 8 and apart from Gavin, "behind the bar", it was empty. After Glyn arrived (thanks for the pint Glyn) it started to get busier. Talk was around stories of Martyn's glorious ascent to becoming a God amongst landlords, Goacher's (I do worship him) and his recent visit, a Butcher's trip to Edinburgh, and the best pub conversation I've heard for ages that went along the lines of, "So if nuns live in a nunnery, why don't monks live in monkeries. Umm (came the answer), because they don't fly?". I love the Butcher's!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Larkins - Porter5.20ExceptionalHa ha ha ha ha. This is THE best porter in THE best pub.
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40ExceptionalOkay a 5 out of 5 for Hop Head at the Butcher's. ...but this was actually better than 5/5. This was so good (as, frankly, it usually is here) that it makes a mockery out of any scale. Just mind blowingly good.
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Blue Top4.80ExcellentThe condition on this was superb. Great beer. Well constructed and complete in terms of it's body. Very drinkable.

Beer and banter up to the mark as usual and a couple of pints of Larkin's Porter produced only the best quality tabbing.......Or so I seem to recall.

Larkins - Porter5.20ExceptionalPure nectar from the man reputed to talk to his hops to get the best out of them

Adnams - Broadside4.70ExcellentSuper, possibly my desert island beer.
Adnams - Mild3.20ExcellentLooks like a mild, not sure it tastes like a mild, a touch of Over the Moon? To fruity for a Mild but very nice.

Ah the Butchers Arms. Plenty of folk in, including Glynn and KB. Conversation was revolving around the fun you can have at a swimming pool without needing to necessarily be in the water.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Larkins - Porter5.20ExceptionalOh yes. The Daddy of Porters is back. Just stunningly good. Stunningly good. Initial flavours are fruity with hints of burnt perspex. The main body is milk powder, roasted malt, slightly sour, slightly acidic. The finish is of acrid milk. Just lovely.
Adnams - Mild3.20ExcellentThis had an intriguing taste to it that I couldn't quite put my finger on. My synaesthesia told me it was green. Why? I've no idea.
