Awesome. Just awesome. Great to see Ian and Glyn in this award winning pub. The conversation in here naturally anastomoses (see that University, sorry Polytechnic, education didn't go to waste) between groups of people ensuring the merriment never ceases. Martyn's acerbic wit and dry humour is the perfect accompaniment to the evening's entertainment, so, as I said, just awesome.
BeerABVScoreNotes
JW Lees (see also Lees) - Harvest Ale11.50ExceptionalUmm. Want JW's harvest? Well come here.
Adnams - Tally-Ho7.00ExceptionalHa ha. Ian ordered something else and Martyn questioned his choice and gave him a third of this before what he ordered. Ha ha, this was brilliant. Didn't taste anything like 7%. Condition was superb and the flavours excellent. Total winner.
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40ExcellentAh, hop head. Top stuff
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Copper Top4.10ExcellentJust what I want from this brewer. Rough farm yard stuff. Great
Adnams - Old Ale4.10GoodGood condition (of course, this is Martyn's pub) but just not my thing. Good bitter cherry but no depth for me.

Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - ESB5.50Not TriedFor Martyn, this is the finisher on a evening out on 4 pints of London Pride

About 20 in on a Saturday afternoon, so absolutely heaving, including a bloke who'd made a 3 hour journey from Rye to be there, and another gent who's going to open a micropub in Bexleyheath next year.

A dozen or so locals in, much talking going on. Called in for a takeaway and a quick pint, Martyn suggested I try the Cobnut, so I did. Splendid !
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kent - Cobnut4.10ExcellentReally nice, dark and malty, some toffee but not cloying, well balanced, so I took some home as well.

A couple of folk in. Sat and listened to a story from Martyn about some silly fool who came in and tried to tell him how to run a pub. Silly fool.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Georges - Broadsword4.70ExcellentA good brown bitter that doesn't drink like a 4.7% beer at all. Be interesting to do a session on it but at that strength, maybe not.

Typical Butchers evening, much banter and Tabbing.

Regarded universally as the first micropub, which has spawned many similar ventures in East Kent and throughout the UK. Real ales are kept on gravity dispense in a cold room to the right and you will view this when you walk through it to the unisex toilet at the rear. Displays a Micropub Association Certificate of Registration warranting, annually, that it adheres to the tenets and ethics of the Association's definition of a micropub. Since post-Covid re-opening in October 2021 now open 5-8 Tuesday to Friday only. The landlord and founder of the Micropub Association, Martyn Hillier, was awarded an MBE in the 2024 New Years Honours list for services to Business and to Hospitality.
