Small tight pub, but it does do a couple of interesting UK beers and an excellent range of bottles. So I had the Great Divide Titan IPA.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Old Ale (aka Old Chestnut)4.00GoodDeep ruby with thin beige head. Slightly sour dark fruity aroma. Nice liquorice and choc finish. Decent old ale. Choccy malty old ale.

Back with some more people from Ratebeer.com. Chatted with the owners for a bit.
BeerABVScoreNotes
BrewDog - Rip Tide8.00ExcellentIt was still on and still amazing.

Tiny pub. I had met up with some guys from Ratebeer.com and we stood at the end of the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
BrewDog - Rip Tide8.00ExcellentA drinkable quaffable Imperial Stout? Yep. Just so much going on plus this ability to make you feel stunningly happy. Great Impy Stout.

Just time for a very swift half.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Purity - Pure Gold3.80PoorGold, thin white head. Bit yeasty on aroma. Decent citrus hops, bit of diacetyl possibly. Not good.
28 Apr 2007 (Ian)
Still a very busy bar/pub. Outside patio was full. I got a perch at the end of the bar chatting with another couple of drunkards
BeerABVScoreNotes
Matthew's - Brassknocker3.80AcceptableBlond citrus beer, sub Dark Star and Oakham, not bad but a bit dull.
Matthew's - Bob Wall4.20AcceptableUndistinguished and no where near as good as when I had it in Liverpool
17 Feb 2007 (Ian)
I love this little pub. I got a seat at one of the small tables in the main room, just by the bar and had some good beers including the De Ranke XX Bitter on tap (keg) one of the best hoppy beers from Belgium.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40AcceptableSweaty sox aroma. Compared with the quality of this beer from the Buthcer's Arms in Herne, this was a pale imitation. The other people I was with thought that it was fine, but once you have had this in tip top condition, it is all too easy to find fault with what I thought was not a great pint.

Just popped in for a half to catch up with some guys from Ratebeer.com and babblebelt.com, not overly busy, but the staff are nice and helpful given the huge array of beer to choose from.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Westerham - Puddledock Porter (superseded by 4% version)4.50GoodI really like this porter and it slipped down easily, after my harum scarum ride on a bicycle from Liverpool Street Station.

As this pub is so small, it is a good idea to stand out on the patio, which we did. The patio heaters were on and I was in shirt sleeves in November, stood outside at 20.30. Amazing. Two handpull cask condition beers on, continental and world on 6 taps and then a huge range of bottled beer from around the world.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Westerham - Special Bitter Ale "1965"5.00AcceptableDeep copper colour with no head. Fruit, malty bitter. Reasonable hop, bit syrupy on the malt.
21 Nov 2006 (Ian)
My last stop as I flew round London for the evening. Pretty busy actually. This seems to have settled down after it opened a couple of months back. Bottle selection continues to grow and the beers on handpull and tap continue to be top notch. £3.90 for a pint of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale still made me baulk at buying it though. Best bottle beer selection of any pub in London.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Crouch Vale - Amarillo5.00GoodGold colour with thin off white head. Amarillo hop aroma, bit of ashtray. Frankly a bit thin in mouth to carry the hop. Peachy fruit and then aromatic hop finish. Lacks real depth. It's 5% ABV, but it needs more body. Bit of sweetness from peachy fruit and alcohol. Good drying finish. Just needs more in the mouthfeel as the aroma and finish are good. Too watery in mouth for me.

I came back to pick my push bike up and to have Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on draught, which I rarely get. Stood at the bar with the owner Richard talking mostly about Belgian beers and trying them. We had a mustard beer and then Girardin Faro both in bottle.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Sierra Nevada - Pale Ale5.00ExcellentAs you would expect. Hoppy with decent malt. One of my favourite US beers.
Brouwerij Bosteels - Pauwel Kwak8.00GoodVery unusual to see this on draught. Bit sickly strong malt, but drinkable. Worth having.

The pub is found in Southwark, Central London, SE1 9AG.

Small pub on the north side of Borough Market run by the same people who own the Utobeer bottled beer stall in the market itself. The bar has 3 hand pulls serving UK cask beers and 6 taps supplying continental and world beers. An extensive bottle beer selection is also available from the fridges behind the bar. The bar has stripped wood floors, pale beige walls and a historic Pilkington glass ceiling. A decked patio provides extra space and seating. Definitely an excellent addition to the Southwark beer scene.

We have visited this pub 151 times, seen 348 different beers and tried 249 of them.
