A brief stop on the way home.

One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Hospital Porter5.20ExcellentGood to see cask beers from the new One Mile End brewery premises in Tottenham beginning to appear in pubs. This is a really good Porter with an underlying smokiness to the taste.

I ran into a good friend on the train back from Hastings and we adjourned here for a couple of evening beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Citra4.20ExcellentLovely. I read somewhere recently that Citra is now Oakham’s biggest seller – not surprised at all.
Hammerton - Life on Mars4.60AcceptableAn above average Red Ale; not too sweet. But still a Red Ale.
Tap East - Commercial Road IPA5.40AcceptableA bit more settled than it was on Wednesday. Still cloudy and spicy and I think that I have to conclude that it is a hop spiciness. I still don’t care for it, but Terry was soon ready for seconds.

A new beer launch here tonight and about half the crowd are here for that – would have been quiet otherwise.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Redemption - Fellowship Porter5.10ExcellentTop notch Porter.
Vocation - Chop & Change Summit4.50ExcellentGolden and clear. Nice hop tastes, putting tonight’s Tap East beer in the shade.
Tap East - Commercial Road IPA5.40AcceptableA one-off beer brewed with help from Melissa Cole and her father. It is a very cloudy ‘old gold’ sort of colour. Very bitter. Has a spicy taste which might come from the English hops (Endeavour and Warrior Queen) or equally might come from the large quantity of suspended yeast in my pint. I didn’t really care for it, but got home to read rave reviews on Twitter – so what do I know.

Evening until late. I run into a well-refreshed group of East London CAMRA-types here, full of praise for Wild Weather Brewery beers, having just returned from a coach trip to that brewery. Otherwise the pub is still mostly populated by international standard swimmers, easily distinguished from the CAMRA bods by their big muscles, wet hair and blinking, reddened eyes.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Steel City (cuckoo at Toolmakers) - Cravend'ale4.70ExcellentI do like this one and stuck with it for most of the evening.
