Mid evening visit, quite a lot of what Kate calls her Tuesday people were in residence. Nothing much changes so two replacement CAMRA branded magazine holders astounded a few.

The full lunchtime session from 12:00 until 15:00 close, Kate apologized for only having three ales on as she had been busy over the festive period. A good chatty crowd in the bar made for a most enjoyable visit.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goacher's - Real Mild Ale3.40ExcellentThe best Goacher's Mild that I have had for some time, I stayed on this until it ran out.
Goacher's - 1066 Old Ale6.70Excellent

I walked along the road from the bus stop at Brenzett and arrived here about ten minutes before opening time, I was number four in the queue outside the door. About a dozen or so outside by the time the door opened punctually at 12:00 and very busy by the time I left about 90 minutes later. Needless to say it was the day of the pub's annual beer festival. It was good to see a lot of familiar faces here today.

Evening from opening time to last train. Like old times with just regulars coming and going, a Trebor mint loving donkey braying loudly in the field opposite and the landlady in top form. Tonight even drivers gave us safe clearance on the dark walk back.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goacher's - 1066 Old Ale6.70ExcellentAllegedly near the end of the cask but enough for us in near perfect condition

Lunchtime visit and absolutely full, a good mix of familiar and new faces. It seemed odd to see gleaming Rolls Royce cars parked outside this basic old fashioned boozer with outside toilets, and fantastic to see people of all ages and backgrounds enjoying beer together,

Evening. Car park and pub packed to the gunnels following a carol service in the church opposite reminding us all of the close link twixt church and imbibation since ancient times. The main bar was furnace hot but I seemed to douse the fire somewhat by burning some damp out of date railway timetables.

Goacher's - Real Mild Ale3.40Good
Goacher's - 1066 Old Ale6.70AcceptablePre-warned it was running out. On the second pint (the last out of the cask) Kate observed my glass had a "white gathering" at the bottom so I did not drink with my eyes

Rare Sunday evening trip here prompted by offer of a lift. Just two or three locals in so felt so like the Red Lion on a mid-weekday evening 35 years ago except no Percy with his torch.

Goacher's - Real Mild Ale3.40Good
Reedley Hallows - Filly Close Blonde3.90GoodUnusual beer for these parts
19 Jul 2016 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening from on the dot of opening time. Our group eventually met up despite railway delays in all directions, followed by a serendipitous arrival of a couple we know of old. The PCC was meeting in the right hand room to swell numbers. Bar was cool as expected of an ancient building. There was talk of a virus locally killing pet rabbits as well as wild ones with the pub garden having seen several kits dead recently with no signs of damage or attack.

****RE-OPENED TUESDAY 1ST JUNE 2021 AND FROM 20TH JULY HOURS ARE 12-3, 6-9 TUESDAY TO SUNDAY ONLY (CLOSED MONDAY) (seating now inside and outside permitted) ***** One of the best pubs in England. It's in CAMRA's national pub inventory because it hasn't really changed much in the last 100 years. In fact in 2011 the Jemison family celebrated 100 years of running the pub. All beers are on gravity and Goacher's is a regular. It's locally known as Doris's after the last landlady. Before that it was Alf's. A 20 minute (no more no less) brisk walk from / to Appledore railway station. Local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year 2015. The handpumps atop the pewter bar counter were used once upon a time but not now. Extensive garden for fair-weather use. Regrettably Doris died in April 2016. The pub closed for some weeks as a result of the bereavement. Re-opened, hopefully forever, on Saturday 11th June 2016. Presume it will soon become known as Kate's! Card payments now accepted here.

We have visited this pub 138 times, seen 207 different beers and tried 128 of them.
