The beer selection here I thought was very good.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Adnams - Broadside4.70ExcellentAn excellent strong bitter with lots of good fruit flavours and peppery hop on the finish
Harviestoun - Schiehallion4.80AcceptableNot quite right, flavours were a bit off, but still a very good cask lager.
Leeds - Midnight Bell4.80Not Tried
Windsor Castle (see also Sadler's entry) - Sadler's Stumbling Badger4.90Not Tried

It was an odd one, I went in after work and there seemed to be virutally no beers on at all until the bar manager said, that they didn't have the pump clips for the festival ales on, so you had to read the backs of the pumps. Sounds odd and it was.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Banks's - Maui Brewery Coconut Porter5.00ExceptionalIn the best form so far and I have just fallen for this beer completely. I love the depth in the mouth, the quality of the flavours, that slightly odd thing that is possibly the coconut and it really just makes you feel happy.
08 Apr 2010 (Ian)
Just stopped in for a pint to see if anything new was on, it wasn't but hey still lots of beers to try.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Tomahawk5.00ExcellentLove the hops

First day of the spring beer festival and they had a great spread of beers. Met up with a colleague and spent a pleasant hour chatting and drinking beer.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Tomahawk5.00ExcellentA hoppy IPA with good toffee malts. Love it.
Hook Norton - Early Mist4.30ExcellentSuper golden ale that just surprised me so much and gave it to my friend and he had 2 pints of it. Good hoppy quality beer.
Sharp's - Gentle Jane4.80GoodPale gold, lasting white head. Faint Belgian yeast aroma. Good sherbert hop flavour and finish. It’s ok if just not overly adventurous. Good to have something different.
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Stickle Pike3.80AcceptableGold/copper with lasting off white head. Quite light in flavour, some bitterness, decent fullness in mouth. OK light flavoured bitter.
Budelse - Capucijn6.00PoorCopper brown colour with lasting cream head. Sweet fruit salad on the flavour. No faults in brewing just terribly sweet and too sweet to be pleasant.

Came to sunny Folkestone to visit Chambers beer fest and a few "top of the town" pubs. Firstly, had a look down the Harbourside area, and very depressing indeed! Brewery Tap (Tontine Street) being converted to flats. Shep's pubs, Princess Royal and Earl Grey both now boarded up. Back to town, quickly, this JD, as reported here, is an excellant church building conversion. Busy this Saturday lunchtime visit with more diners than drinkers, but reasonable service.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Mary's Ruby Mild4.50ExceptionalA top mild served in top condition.
Leeds - Midnight Bell4.80PoorHaving sampled four pints of this stunningly good mild in Maidstone the night before this visit, I was disappointed at the bland condition of this ale here. Had a word with one of the staff, but he thought it was ok!

It was NEARLY the weekend, so I came for a quick drink.

A very good range of beers was on offer, much better than I expected. I think I will visit this pub more often in future, especially now with the much improved rail services between Folkestone and Ashford.

It's funny, I'm liking this pub more these days. I sit in the back corner on the left and drift off. The Burns Night haggis offer was on, so I had haggis, a couple of pints and a whisky chaser. Nice.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Black Ice4.10ExceptionalJust one of the best cask beers in Britain, why isn't this brewed more? The malts, the mouthfeel the hops on the end? great.
Black Wolf (formerly Traditional Scottish Ales (TSA)) - Sporran Warmer4.80PoorDeep ruby colour, lasting creamy beige head. It's an odd fruity beer almost as though it has some raspberry alcopop in it. Odd and not very nice. Really like a ruby ale with a raspberry Belgian fruit beer stuck in it. No bad flavours like being off, just not very good. Couldn't finish it, nor did I really want to.

I stood at the bar chatting to the bar manager and managed to persuade him to put a new guest beer on. Lovely conversion.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Orkney (Sinclair) - Red MacGregor4.00GoodI got the first half and pint out of the barrel. Very fresh, good condition, good hop bite on finish and nice mineral aroma and good solid fruity malts in the middle. Good.
Greene King - Abbot5.00AcceptableI had this in place of the Dark Conspiracy. It's absolutely fine and I quite enjoyed it but wanted something a little bit mroe exciting.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dark Conspiracy4.90Not TriedI got the last pint out of it and I had to give it back
24 Sep 2009 (Ian)
During a discussion on Ratebeer, this Wetherspoon was seen as one of the best due to the sympathetic conversion from a church. I sat upstairs and stared at the ceiling/sky
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50GoodTight sparkler, but the biscuit and the fruit come through. Lots of biscuit on the finish. Some slight earthy hop. Pretty good with some raspberry malt fruit evident.
