Yep, it's a Spoons, but in a church.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dr Sunshine's Special Friendly English Wheat Ale4.20GoodHaven't had it in a while, light refreshing, some decent hop, bit of tangerine. Good condition. Pretty good and really refreshing.

Second day of the festival and a decent number of the festival beers on. Had them all in 1/3 pints until Martin arrived when I had pints.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Sharp's - Red Sloe Ale4.00GoodChestnut colour, quite a drinkable fruity dark bitter. Some red hedgerow fruit, some spicy hop on end. I thought it was decent and in good condition
Adnams - Gunhill4.00GoodI enjoyed this in bottle, so I was interested in it on cask. Yes, still a veery solid better than average best brown bitter. Good toffee and fruity malt. I like it.
Marston's - Sinebrychoff Porter6.20GoodBlack, virtually no head. Tar. It settles down into a choccy, dark Belgian choc bitter flavour. Takes a little bit of getting used to, but had far worse. Alcohol is well masked I thought. Quite interesting.
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Epic Brewing Pale Ale5.00GoodBetter than first time I had it. Less cheesy, but ok. The cascades really came through more.
Greene King - Gosnold's Glory4.50AcceptableIt's a quite fruity bitter, no huge hop presence, little bit of tongue tingle on finish. Some GK yeast character. Other than fruit, a bit dull.
Robinsons - Nosey Parker3.80AcceptableCopper colour, thin off white head. Some toffee on this, some Robinson yeast character. It's an ok bitter, some drying hop on finish. OK conidition. It's fine, bit more drying on finish than usual. Fine.
Titanic - Velvet Curtain5.00PoorIf this is anything like their normal stout then it should be good. But it isn't. Very artificially high in choc, some vanilla spiciness. Not entirely pleasant to be honest. The base beer is good, but the artificial choc is poor.

The last two times I've visited my friend Martin in Folkestone I have managed to miss the train I was intending to catch. which meant I had half an hour to kill. So I sat in the comfy chair in the corner snug with my pint and listened to a 2005 episode of Fighting Talk on my recently purchased MP3 player. Surprisingly quiet but not surprisingly slow service. I really did almost fall asleep on the bar waiting to be served.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Saltaire - Titus Black4.50GoodGood condition, good choc and especially coffee flavours. Very suppable and put me in a good mood after missing my train
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%)3.40AcceptableUnlike Dubbel, I couldn't stop myself buying a pint for 99p. It was in very good condition with yeast forming smallish clumps on the head. But it really is pants. Yeast character, but then minimal malt and hop presence. For a 3.6% beer, yes I don't expect it to be full of flavour, but I've had milds better than this. But it is just 99p whilst my Saltaire was £2.10.

Lots of “Coming soon” beers but only one guest. I sat upstairs trying to get the Wifi to work and failed.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Stuff It4.40PoorCopper colour with lasting thin beige head. Aroma of cranberries and other red fruits. In the mouth its a bitter and tastes as though cranberry essence has been added. To be honest its pretty awful. OK condition and the base bitter is ok, but the artificial fruit over it, just does not work. I just do not like it.

Didn't really fancy a beer, but I had managed to miss my train by about 10 seconds. Not very busy and most of the beers were advertised as "Available Soon."
BeerABVScoreNotes
Burton Bridge - Santi-Freeze4.50AcceptableIt's got a little bit of fruit salad in the flavour. Some sherbert hop on finish. Its a slightly fruitier than normal bitter.

I wanted to see if this place had followed the County Hotel in Ashford in that they still had festival beers on at a clearance price. Well yes they still had festival beers but at the normal guest bitter price of £2.10. I sat in the comfy sofas in one of the corner snugs and stared into space for a bit. Which was nice.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Fuggles Kentish Pale Ale4.40GoodDefinitely got some US style hops on it. Really good hoppy golden bitter.
Robinsons - Old Tom Chocolate Ale6.00AcceptableChoc aroma, some fruit from the base beer. Better than at the Thomas Ingoldsby, better condition. I love the normal beer, and the ginger version was good too, but this doesn't work for me, the choc is too artificial.
Hilden - Molly's Stout4.20Not Tried
18 Nov 2008 (Ian)
I hadn't been in a 'Spoons in nearly a week and was suffering from withdrawal symptoms. Having seen the beers that have been on in Folkestone and Ashford I knew that not all the festival beers had been on. Not too busy, I had a choice of seats. So I sat by the window and listened to Listen Against on Radio 4
BeerABVScoreNotes
Yo-Ho Brewing Company - Yona Yona5.00GoodHoppy premium bitter. And only £1.39 a pint!!!! Apparently they are trying to sell off their festival beers.

I was inbetween work and going to see The Stranglers at Lees Cliff Hall, so I stopped here for the festival pie and a pint (£4.69 including a drink which I think is good value).
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harviestoun - Thistle Do4.60GoodDrank 3 pints of this so it must have been good. Good dark winter beer with plenty of malt and some good hop presence on the finish.

Bath Ales - Golden Hare4.40Not TriedI had a taster of this as I had it at the Humphrey Bean in Tonbridge on Sunday at it was full of diacetyl. This was still full of diacetyl so it must have been the whole brew that is infected unfortunately.

Stopped off for one as I had time to kill before the train home.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Iron Curtain6.00GoodThe beer I've drunk most of at this festival. Good choc
Firestone Walker - California Pale Ale4.50AcceptableThought that I would try this again. Still only just vaguely more hoppy than an average UK golden bitter. Just expected so much more from a beer called a California Pale Ale.
15 Oct 2008 (Ian)
I haven't been here for a bit, so I came to have a look and found 3 new beers on. They've done up some of the seating and they manage to keep some of the same staff which is a good sign.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Elgood's - Barleymead4.80Good It’s a tasty premium bitter. Really fresh. Lovely toffee malt and good harsh hop finish. This is pretty good. Nice beer.
St Austell - Tinner's Ale3.70GoodClassic session bitter, with some malt, hop and yeast character. Cracking condition. Yes, it’s not a whole lot of flavour or too exciting, but what it does, it does well.
Ventnor - Oyster Stout4.50AcceptableBlack, very dark brown with lasting tan head. Quite a tart stout, some richness, bit of liquorice and sourness. It’s a little musty too.
Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale)4.20Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot5.00Not Tried
