Fairly quiet early on a Saturday afternoon with a few locals calling in for a swift pint.
Kent - Zingiber | 4.10 | | Another beer that from the pumpclip seems to have changed strength since the new brewery started. An excellent pale ale with just the right amount of ginger which doesn't impinge on the hop and malt balance. My score 16/20. |
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Shoreditch | 4.30 | | Very pale ale with a strong peach hop flavour. Not much malt in evidence with a dry, peach finish. My score 15/20. |
Whitstable - Renaissance Ruby Mild | 3.80 | | This sample was far more bitter than I was expecting. Not sure what was wrong here, but too bitter for a mild. My score 14/20. |

Quite simply a superb boozer. In spite of having just eaten a splendid meal at the Pineapple, the pies and sausage rolls proved irresistable.
Marble - Pint (was 3.9%) | 3.40 | | Another pale beer with a thin, bubbly head. Hoppy with citrus notes. |
Camden Town - Inner City Green | 3.90 | | I was originally put off by the name, having tried a couple of beers that were green or greenish in colour, and not very enjoyable. However this is a superb pale beer with a thin bubbly head. Very moreish with citrus notes, very similar in colour and taste to the Marble Pint that I had just finished. |

Brilliant buzz in this no nonsense pub. I like the real money only no plastic sign. Staff are friendly efficient and know their stuff and the vinyl music helps the ambience. Shame the cider tends to be better than the beer
Ascot - Single Hop Citra | 4.60 | | Not enough citra but the lasting hopoy finish is good |
Hardknott - Katalyst | 3.80 | | Diacetyl. Some hop on finish and some fruit salad in mouth |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Ashford | 4.20 | Not Tried
Fyne - Jarl | 3.80 | Not Tried
Fyne - Creel Ale | 4.00 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Mai Bock | 4.50 | Not Tried

Very busy with locals and swelled by a visit from the Thursday evening mild drinkers.
Empire - Cherry Chocolate Mild | 3.80 | | Sweet and chocolatey black mild with just a hint of cherry. My score 16/20. |
Whitstable - Renaissance Ruby Mild | 3.80 | | Dark ruby colour, some bitterness in the taste, but also fairly malty with a dryish finish. My score 15/20. |
Mighty Oak - Cold Comfort | 4.00 | | Pale bitter with good hop character with some citrus flavour and good malt balance. My score 15/20. |

Just an amazing early evening sat with the 4 guys from Struise in Belgium drinking cider, perry and mead. The pork pies and cheese plates were both excellent.

Quercus Devon (now see Salcombe entries) - Prospect | 4.00 | Not Tried
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Mild | 3.60 | Not Tried

A wet Monday lunchtime, we enjoyed some excellent beers, good quality pork pies, listening to vinyl, and the company of a wonderful pub dog. This pub only sells beers and ciders from small independent breweries. The two lager style beers on offer were from Meantime Brewery.
St Peter's - Mild | 3.70 | | |
Redemption - Urban Dusk | 4.60 | | Chestnut brown in colour, a bit like a strong mild. |
Severn Vale - Severn Springs | 4.40 | | Golden, hoppy IPA |
Elgood's - Cambridge Bitter | 3.80 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Sussex Extra Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried

18 Feb 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Busier than usual from a visit by the London mild drinkers club.
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Priory Mild | 3.50 | | Top condition here, big malty kick to start then furit and bitter choclate malt to finish. My score 16/20. |
Mighty Oak - Sweet Chariot | 4.20 | | Darkish mid brown bitter which delivers an unexpected taste of fruity hoppiness more akin to a pale ale. Full bodied taste of berry fruits gives way to a dryish finish. My score 16/20. |
St Peter's - Mild | 3.70 | | Balck mild with some roast malt and a fair bit of hoppiness in the finish. My score 15/20. |
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | | Less sweet than usual, malty, but with a dryish finish. My score 15/20. |
Oxfordshire Ales - BBB | 3.70 | | Rather sweet and cloying with a slight hint of diacetyl present. My score 14/20. |
