Truefitt - Ironopolis Stout | 4.70 | | Black in colour. A very chocolaty stout, with a bit of roast and some hops. |

03 Jan 2013 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy with a visit by the Thursday evening mild drinkers.
Blackjack - Double Bluff | 4.80 | | Pale strong bitter with a good hop character of tropical fruit and gooseberry suggesting use of Nelson Sauvin hop. My score 16/20. |
London Fields - Shoreditch Triangle IPA | 6.00 | | Strong pale IPA style beer with a good citrus hop character and a smooth malt base. My score 16/20. |
East London (ELB) - Orchid Vanilla Mild | 3.60 | | Dark brown/ruby mild with a good dose of vanilla to give a sweetish edge to the chocolate malt base. Full bodied for its strength. My score 16/20. |
Boggart - Dark Mild | 4.00 | | Dark ruby/black mild with moderate roast malt bitterness and a little fruit in the finish. My score 15/20. |
Late Knights - Old Red Eyes | 4.50 | | Still brewed at Truefitt brewery before they find a London base, this was a red ale with rather an over balance of crystal malt giving a rather cloying and sweet taste to the beer. Dryish, bitter finish. My score 14/20. |
07 Aug 2012 (ChrisE)
First stop on the way home from the GBBF taking advantage of the direct and crowded trains from Olympia to Gospel Oak. A really great atmosphere in here tonight. I have not listed all the beers that were available.
London Fields - Hackney Hopster | 4.20 | | Magnificent. Probably the most grapefruity beer that I have ever tried. |
Buxton - American Rye | 4.30
14 Jul 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Quite busy for a Saturday afternoon.
XT Brewing - No. 2 Gold | 4.20 | | Sweetish and full flavoured, quite deep golden in colour. The finish is hoppy and fruity. My score 15/20. |
Pitfield's - Hewitt's Opus No. 4 | 3.60 | | Forgot that I had only recently sampled this, so here's another one. Well balanced golden ale with a bittersweet flavour. My score 15/20. |
03 Jun 2012 (Philip Pirrip)
More persistent rain but it was not washing day!
2200 hours visit. Noted that the policy of all real ales at one price has been abandoned. Handwritten little notes on pumpclips warn of higher than standard prices. Handled jugs are the default serving so make sure you get in first to ask for a straight if that is what you want.
Marble - Ginger Marble | 4.50 | | Hand written note above pumpclip warned "Still hazy" but it was top form delicious |
Dark Star - Golden Gate | 4.50 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Espresso Stout | 4.20 | Not Tried
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Kipling | 5.20 | Not Tried
Otley - O-Garden | 4.80 | Not Tried | Sold out during my visit |
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Citra | 3.10 | Not Tried
Summer Wine (SWB) - Diablo | 6.00 | Not Tried
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Truman's Runner | 4.00 | Not Tried
Oakleaf (now see Fallen Acorn entries) - May Bee Mild | 4.60 | Not Tried
By The Horns - Prince Albert Munich Dunkel | 5.50 | Not Tried | Came on tap as I blew out of the door |
Pitfield's - Hewitt's Opus No. 4 | 3.60 | Not Tried
20 May 2012 (Dosser)
Our fourth pub on our London pub crawl. 10 beers were on the bar.
Bristol Beer Factory - Milk Stout | 4.50
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Citra | 3.10 | Not Tried
09 Feb 2012 (Stephen Harris)
Tiny pub? Thursday night? New beer launch? “It’s going to be packed”! It was.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Black Pearl Oyster Stout | 6.20 | | Very nice, smooth, thick, Oyster Stout with a bit of a tang. |
Kent - Cobnut | 4.10 | | Dark, malty and nutty, with some hops in the mix as well. |
Otley - Odessa | 7.40 | | One year old, Bourbon-barrel-aged stout. A bit of a whiskey whiff, hints of ginger, but an over-powering taste of Belgian chocolate – the latter a bit to the detriment of the other flavours. Also, surprisingly lacking in umph for a beer of 7%-plus. |
Silver Brewhouse (formerly Raw) - Top Beer | 3.60 | | Rather disappointing, copper/amber-coloured beer with not a lot to it. |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur | 5.90 | Not Tried
Cotleigh - Tawny | 3.80 | Not Tried
B&T (Banks & Taylor's) - Shefford Dark Mild | 3.80 | Not Tried
Ilkley - Mary Jane | 3.50 | Not Tried
Ilkley - Lotus IPA (was 5.6%) | 5.50 | Not Tried
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Dalston Black IPA | 7.00 | Not Tried
Black Hole - Asteroid | 4.00 | Not Tried
21 Jan 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Fairly quiet on a Saturday lunchtime.
Ballards (now a sub-brand of Greyhound) - Midhurst Mild | 3.40 | | Dark ruby/brown mild with a fairly dry, malty flavour and low hoppiness. Dryish finish. My score 15/20. |
Summer Wine (SWB) - Aussie Yules | 5.50 | | Very hoppy amber strong bitter. Strong citrus hop flavours that are just a little too intense for my taste, with little balance. My score 13/20. |
05 Jan 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Almost taken over by the Thursday night mild drinkers.
Moles - Double MM Mild | 3.60 | | Swewet smooth and malty mild with no hops. Choclate and biscuity malt with a fruity finish. Top condition here. My score 18/20. |
Marble - Chocolate Marble | 5.50 | | Very malty beer with dark chocolate bitterness. Hops come through in the finish. My score 16/20. |
Redemption - Trinity | 3.00 | | Easy drinking pale citrussy beer with lots of fruity citrus flavours. My score 15/20. |
By The Horns - Jolly Fat Man | 5.60 | | Full bodied black stout with a bitter roast flavour with a hint of spice. Quite a dry finish. My score 15/20. |
Williams Brothers - Cock 'O' The Walk | 4.30 | | Red ale with a rather sweet and sickly crystal malt base. Little hoppiness to speak of. My score 14/20. |
28 Nov 2011 (Dosser)
Afternoon pub crawl of CAMRA award winning pubs. 10 beers and 8 ciders on. Not my sort of boozer though.
Northern (see also Blakemere) - Flaming Embers | 6.00 | | Rather flat and lifeless. |
