18:00 Quick couple of pints before a curry. Usual regulars in attendance.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Black Iris - Better the devil you know5.50GoodLeft over from the beer festival. Developed a bit of a hop haze but otherwise OK.
Elmtree - Thirst For Victory4.00AcceptableI find beers from this brewery very variable. This was a rather uninspiring beer.
Lytham - Ginger & Nut4.20Not Tried
Cottage - Dogfight4.40Not Tried
30 Aug 2015 (HSB)
14:00 - 15:45 As the CAMRA Brewery Liaison Officer for the pub's brewery I felt it was my duty to try all the test brews. Dirty job etc. The pub was not so busy as yesterday but trade was steady. I tried all eight beers and handed my tasting notes in. Job done.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Black Iris - Better the devil you know5.50ExcellentAustralian hops. Full of tropical fruit flavour.
Taylor's Attleborough - Brew 86b7.00ExcellentThe dry hopped version. Resinous and slightly cloudy with hop residue.
Taylor's Attleborough - Brew 87a5.50ExcellentA stronger version of Brew 85. Thinner mouthfeel but tastier version. For my part more drinkable.
Taylor's Attleborough - Brew 82b3.50GoodDry hopped. Better hop malt balance. The phenolic notes were less evident.
Taylor's Attleborough - Brew 854.00GoodTried yesterday but not impressed then. I think it was overshadowed by the Squawk Porter. Today it was a better beer. Nice back taste but I think it could do with more hops. It is going to be used as a sausage flavouring by a local butcher.
Taylor's Attleborough - Brew 86a7.00GoodDidn't drink its strength. More best bitter than the barley wine territory it is straying into.
Taylor's Attleborough - Brew 87b5.50GoodThe dry hopped version. Surprisingly not as good, in my opinion, as the straight brew.
Taylor's Attleborough - Brew 82a3.50AcceptableLight and malty. Not enough hops to balance the malt. Touch phenolic.
Taylor's Attleborough - Brew 834.50AcceptableVery similar to Brew 82a but sweeter. Slightly cloudy.
29 Aug 2015 (HSB)
14:30 - 17:00 Annual August Bank Holiday beer festival. Interesting selection of beers plus a number of Steve's latest trial brews complete with feedback form. The pub was busy with a mix of regulars and beer festival visitors. As I left Sam the Landlady told me that they had tried to select beers that I hadn't had before. They certainly succeeded.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Track - Sonoma3.80ExceptionalPerfect condition. Creamy with citrus notes. A golden ale with body without being sweet. Held its flavour for the whole pint.
Squawk - Porter5.50ExcellentFull of roasted barley flavour.
Almasty - Salted Caramild3.80ExcellentDark and rich. I couldn't detect any salt though. A great pint but too rich for more than one.
Taylor's Attleborough - Brew 82a3.50GoodVery light and unexpectedly malty
Taylor's Attleborough - Brew 854.00GoodDark and malty

18:30 After a day of domestic duties and a bit of carpentry I was rewarded with a trip to the pub. More clips have arrived for the beer festival including a Salted Caramalt. Most intriguing.
BeerABVScoreNotes

Northumberland - Alnwick Castle Pale4.40GoodTypical Northumberland taste

23 Aug 2015 (HSB)
12:20 Trip to Sainsbury's followed by the obligatory stop here. I was shown the pumpclips for next weekend's beer festival. Some interesting beers. The visit was also enhanced by a number of vintage buses stopping opposite the pub ferrying enthusiasts to a bus rally at a nearby airfield.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Grain - Year of the Hop 2015 - Unknown Hop4.40ExcellentThe cask label was illegible so Steve didn't know what the hop was. The brewery website is of no help either.

18:30 An unplanned visit. My wife got in from work and suggested going to the pub. I accepted readily. Our chums were in attendance. A pleasant catch up session ensued.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Great Heck - Simcoe4.00ExcellentSuperb hoppy beer with a malt balance. I had two.
Northern Monk - Pale Ale4.50GoodPerfect condition but not a lot of taste.

28 Jul 2015 (HSB)
17:00 Usual Tuesday evening visit. Usual suspects in attendance.
BeerABVScoreNotes
St Peter's - Organic Best Bitter4.10ExcellentI find this a very variable beer but Steve had got it in top form.
Lacons - Encore3.80ExcellentVery fresh and spritzy
Tydd Steam - Iron Brew4.20AcceptableNot one of their best
14 Jul 2015 (HSB)
18:15 Victory snatched from defeat. Steve ran out of cask beer when I turned up. Delivery was late and the cellar was full of settling beer. Some of the test brews had been bottled and we were given a selection to taste free of charge. No labels but I could identify one as one of the 5.5 beers. It had matured well with a secondary fermentation.

04 Jul 2015 (HSB)
14:00 onwards. The pub's midi beer festival featuring six trial brews from the pub's own brewery. The casks were stillaged in the garden with Steve the cellarman's own cooling system which had coped superbly with the fluctuating temperatures, and a ferocious thunderstorm in the early hours. My chum from Saxmundham joined me for the session and my usual pub companions joined us late afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Taylor's Attleborough - Trial Brew No. 63.50ExcellentGreen hop notes. Light golden colour less malty than trial brew No. 4. An excellent session that drinks above its gravity.
Taylor's Attleborough - Trial Brew No. 63.50ExcellentHaving tasted all six beers. I returned to No. 6. Best of the day, second best No. 1.
Taylor's Attleborough - Trial Brew No. 14.00ExcellentDark beer with roast notes and caramalt red hued. Lightly hopped, slightly sweet. Excellent condition. Reminiscent of an old ale.
Taylor's Attleborough - Trial Brew No. 43.60GoodLight golden colour. Nice balance of malt & hops. Beery aftertaste.
Taylor's Attleborough - Trial Brew No. 35.50GoodLight & golden. Very tasty with a touch of creaminess. Hoppy. Good mouthfeel.
Taylor's Attleborough - Trial Brew No. 24.20AcceptableLight and golden. Too malty for my tastes. More hops would have balanced the malt taste.
Taylor's Attleborough - Trial Brew No. 55.50AcceptableFruity, hoppy but cloying. My least favourite of the day.
Cliff Quay - Bitter3.50Not Tried
