13:00 visit. Not in the 2013 gbg, but been in 16 times previously in 1993-5/7-2001/3/6-12. Still a top place for Real Ale and value food.
Worsthorne - Foxstones | 3.90 | | I come to Dover, first time in 18 months, and find a new ale! Top class too. |

Abigale - Nailbourne | 4.50
Worsthorne - Gold | 3.60 | | |
08 Sep 2012 (Philip Pirrip)
Mid to late evening visit. Seemed more relaxed and welcoming to "strangers" than under previous managements.
Dartford Wobbler (re-named from Millis) - Gravesend Guzzler | 3.70 | | Lovely floral nose and golden ale (perhaps orangey) flavour |
Bank Top - Dark Mild | 4.00 | | OK not more |
Whitstable - Renaissance Ruby Mild | 3.80 | | Probably should have had this before the bitter |
Cottage - Golden Arrow | 4.50 | Not Tried | Never choose Cottage, too many spurious beer names and beer name series |
16 Jul 2012 (ChrisE)
Under new management and now both upstairs and downstairs are open again. Monday evening and both areas appeared to be doing good business.
Bank Top - Dark Mild | 4.00 | | Superb dark mild in really excellent condition. I could not fault this. |
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Reeve's Ale | 4.10
Adnams - Lighthouse | 3.40 | Not Tried
27 Jan 2011 (Ian)
I was in Dover for my delayed works Xmas meal. Not changed much even though I haven't been here for a few years and still recognised 3 of the regulars.
Spinning Dog - Herefordshire Owd Bull | 3.90 | | Not in the best of nick and I did struggle a bit to finish my pint. |
Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | Not Tried
20 Nov 2010 (Brian)
Dropped in for a pint after a bit of Xmas shopping in Dover (of all places)!
Different feel to the place since I last visited. The beer is no longer served on gravity and there's draught lager available, but still a high quality establishment.
Dark Star - Green Hop IPA | 6.50 | | Amazing. What 5 stars is meant for. The huge hit of drowsy hop is stunning, almost physically. Fruity but sharp and refreshing and drinkable for a 6.5%. |
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
11 Sep 2010 (Pedro)
Afternnon visit
Anglo-Dutch - Gods Own Ale | 4.20
Adnams - Regatta | 4.30 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
17 Jul 2010 (ChrisE)
Peter made us most welcome, and offered to supply crockery and cutlery for anyone that wanted to purchase their lunch from the chip shop next door.
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Blue Top | 4.80
Toad - Golden Angel | 4.00 | | A new brewery from Doncaster, commenced brewing in Spring/Summer 2010. I was surprised to find it in Dover. A good golden ale. |
Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
22 May 2009 (Blair)
I wanted to hit a few of the pubs in Dover after going to the Crabble Mill beer festival. This was the first port of call. Really interesting little cellar bar, wouldn't expect it from how it looks up top. Quiet but friendly atmosphere. A great little pub.
Hopdaemon - Leviathan | 6.00 | | I'm always really happy to see this beer. Really fruity with loads of chocolate. Complex and wonderful beer. |
Goacher's - Real Mild Ale | 3.40 | Not Tried
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale | 3.70 | Not Tried
06 Feb 2009 (Dubbel)
Dubious decision to come here after a full day at the White Cliffs festival. Relaxed atmosphere and very friendly service from the lady behind the bar. A number of patrons in from Southeast London and we swapped stories. I hope we weren't too loud.
Goacher's - Best Dark Ale (aka Original) | 4.10 | | Gravity dispensed, malt-led with some chocolate coming through. Very drinkable but we'd finished on barley wine at the festival so apologies if I'm doing it a disservice. |
Northumberland - Crimson Pirate | 4.30 | | Handpulled with no head. Nice spice and tasty red malts but predictably a little flat. Still more than drinkable. |
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid | 3.70 | Not Tried
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
Northumberland - Brown Ale | 4.60 | Not Tried
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | Not Tried
