27 Oct 2006 (Brian)
Dropped in after work - three light golden ales on offer.
RCH - Pitchfork | 4.30 | | Smelt of pear drops. Full mouth with more acid. Clean citrus finish. |
Iceni - Celtic Stout | 4.20 | | Smelt so much like bread dough it was like being in a bakers. Tasted of apple though, excellently strange. |
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale | 3.70 | | Served on gravity. A bit dull, but still good. No head to speak of but still fresh enough. |
Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried
14 Jul 2006 (Brian)
Dropped in after work. Great range of beers as always.
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale | 3.70 | | Slightly sweaty aroma, but a great taste. Grapefruit tang, followed by prickly sherbert feel and lovely bite. Superb. |
Northumberland - Issac Hunt | 4.00 | | Just ask for a pint of Issac! Plenty of malt/yeast, tasted a bit of almonds. Bitter finish. |
Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Two Halves | 4.20 | Not Tried
06 Jul 2006 (Brian)
Early afternoon, a handfull of customers.

27 May 2006 (Andrew)
Nearly empty downstairs which isn't a bad thing as it's not a very big pub.
Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout | 4.50 | | Well balanced creamy burnt-coal bitterness. Fanastic |
Titanic - Golden Age | 4.60 | Not Tried
Northumberland - Bucking Fastard | 4.00 | Not Tried
Cottage - SS Great Britain | 4.00 | Not Tried
27 May 2006 (Ian)
Andrew, Jane, Martin and myself cycled from the Crabble Corn Mill beer festival, up to The Fox at Temple Ewell and then down into Dover. Blakes was very quiet with 3 handpulls and the 6 cask stillage still going.
Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout | 4.50 | | I had 2 pints of this. The first was slightly warmer and wonderful, full of charcoaly roast malt. The second was slightly colder and the flavours were less pronounced |
22 May 2006 (Brian)
Only me in the bar, except the barman who is my old physics teacher.
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid | 3.70 | | No head at all, slight golden tinge. Excellent full hop flavour. |
Northumberland - Ashington Ale | 4.20 | | Dark, smoky bitter. Good body with a herby edge |
Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried | As this is now a real ale only establishment, this has replaced the Guinness. |
24 Feb 2006 (Brian)
Called in just after the lunchtime session was over, only a few in.
Hopdaemon - Dominator | 5.10 | | What can I say? This is absolutely fantastic - tangerines in the nose, sharp acidity but smooth finish. I can't think of anything I've had that is better than this. |
Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout | 4.50 | | Smelt like a freshly opened jar of instant coffee. Superb taste of chocolate malts, but also a bitterness in the aftertaste. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | Not Tried
1648 - Winter Warrant | 4.80 | Not Tried
Archers - Admiral Lord Rodney | 3.90 | Not Tried

01 Feb 2006 (Ian)
Hadn't been here since before Christmas, but I got a warm welcome as usual from the locals. Apparently I had entered a raffle and had won a picture which I had come to collect. Cheerful place with a good range of beers, normally favouring Kent beers.
Hopdaemon - Leviathan | 6.00 | | Reddish brown with disappearing head. Slightly syrupy dark red fruity beer with generous hops. Strong and quite heavy. Still the fruit/hop is quite nice with good underlying malt. |
Whitstable - Oyster Stout | 4.50 | | Black with beige head. Nice stout, thick and juicy. Nice dark malts and some fruit |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Goacher's - Best Dark Ale (aka Original) | 4.10 | Not Tried | Badged as Dark and came on just as I was leaving. |
Blackawton - Original Bitter | 3.80 | Not Tried
