On the way back from the Old Mill in Ashford we popped in here. There was a birthday party going on in the saloon bar so we sat in the main bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Early Bird4.30GoodGood condition and I could happily have drank it all night, but it's still not as powerful as it used to be in terms of the hops.

Fairly full in the restaurant area and a couple in the bar when we arrived with friends for our lunchtime meal. Service was good and the meal fine.

Quite quiet inside when we went for a lunch with an ex-colleague and his wife. The meal and service was good and the staff friendly.

Fairly busy in the main bar and about half full in the side bar where we sat. It's a nice pub but again, like the Trout, it felt a little soulless.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Late Red4.50PoorIt wasn't off so this rating of poor isn't necessarily anything to do with the pub's keeping of the beer (although the beer was a bit lack lustre). There was a horrible toasted peanut smell to the beer and a harsh reedy toasted-peanut bite to the flavour. The Master Brew had this too so I don't know if the malt Shep's were using was a bit funny or something.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70Not TriedHad a sip of Jane's and it wasn't off but it wasn't very nice

Met up with Andrew and Martin to exchange Christmas presents and have a few beers. Probably my favourite Sheps pub behind The Swan in Maidstone and a couple in Faversham.

Met Ian and Martin here for a few beers. The pub was quiet but then it was only 4pm. The Late Red was £3.20 a pint which was actually less than I thought it would be here.
