Visits Details
09 Jun 2022 (Jack William)
Back for a “second Thursday” group visit - 9 of us making it quite cosy with about the same number of regulars. We were allowed food from the Chippy across the road - much to the relief of one local “that’s quieter now you’re all eating” she declared. Ales at £3.50 a pint, but £2 a half.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | | Surprised to see this on in a micro. |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40
Wantsum - Imperium | 4.00 | | Marked up as 3.8%. |
11 Nov 2021 (Jack William)
Another 2nd Thursday visit to the Hair. Half a dozen of us doubled the customer numbers. We had a rather good session.
Wantsum - More’s Head | 3.70 | | Most popular of the ales - I think we did a couple of gallons. |
Heritage (formerly William Worthington Brewery) - Keltek Lance | 4.00
Heritage (formerly William Worthington Brewery) - Massey’s | 4.10 | Not Tried
22 Sep 2021 (Jack William)
Just after noon opening - 5 other punters in, “ who will rid me of this turbulent priest” got blank stares from two of them - Veblen when I mentioned Tommy Becket. Everyone enjoying the Wantsum beer however.
Wantsum - Turbulent Priest | 4.40
Milestone - Maid Marian | 4.30 | Not Tried
Wantsum - More’s Head | 3.70 | Not Tried
08 Jul 2021 (Jack William)
Lunchtime session for our bus-pass group. We were offered an outside area round the corner - but would have had to have used plastic glasses. Stayed inside and chatted with a number of locals. Very convivial. Lunch by way of the chippy opposite and the pub provided condiments and serviettes. We have been offered a cold buffet if we order ahead next time.
Constellation - Indus | 3.90 | | I started and finished on this ale - it really was rather good.
(Marked up incorrectly as “Incus” on the blackboard.) |
Milestone - Maid Marian | 4.30 | | Good body. |
Wantsum - More’s Head | 3.70 | | Fresh barrel - so much better than my recent pint at Blakes. |
15 Jun 2021 (Jack William)
Lunchtime- good banter with a couple of regulars on the Thanet micropub scene.
Heritage (formerly William Worthington Brewery) - St Modwen Golden Ale (superseded by 4.2% version) | 4.10 | | A little hazy, but good flavour. |
Wantsum - More’s Head | 3.70 | Not Tried | Was going down well with the regulars - sparklingly clear. |
Georges - Cockle Shells | 4.00 | Not Tried
06 Oct 2020 (Jack William)
Pleasant welcome as always - 2 others in at 2.
Three interesting beers on.
Angels & Demons (now uses McCanns branding not its own) - 1961 Green Hop | 4.30 | | Another splendid green hop. |
Front Row - Set | 3.90 | | Nice amber ale. |
Parkway (formerly Glastonbury Ales) - Giggle and Titter | 3.80 | Not Tried
20 Aug 2020 (Jack William)
En-route to Ramsgate mid afternoon- glad to see this place back open with their usual all-day hours. Couple of locals in.
Island Brewery - Island Wight | 4.00 | | A very acceptable golden ale. |
North Yorkshire - Cobble | 3.80 | Not Tried
Cleveland - Seasider | 3.60 | Not Tried
04 Jan 2020 (Jack William)
Lunchtime - good cycle from the Fez. Nice to see a group of about 6 twenty-somethings coming in as I left.
No choice of brewery today - but A&D have a good range.
Angels & Demons (now uses McCanns branding not its own) - Bombay Social | 3.80 | | Another very good ale from A&D. |
McCanns (used to use Angels and Demons name as well) - Folkestone Best | 4.00 | Not Tried
McCanns (used to use Angels and Demons name as well) - The Troubadour | 4.50 | Not Tried
12 Dec 2019 (Jack William)
2nd Thursday bus-pass outing for 8 of us from Canterbury. Just 3 other punters during our session.
All of the beers were in good condition - but I had a very heavy cold and really couldn’t discern any flavours to note.
Wantsum - Fortitude (was 4.2%) | 4.60
Isle of Purbeck - Harry's Harvest Pale Ale | 5.00
Brew Buddies - BB01 Best Bitter | 4.30
21 Nov 2019 (Dosser)
4 beers on
McCanns (used to use Angels and Demons name as well) - Janet Street Green Hop Porter | 4.50 | | Told that this was a strong beer. It was for this micro. I didnt enjoy this. Lacking flavour and that porter taste and feel but it had the colour. |
