The front bar was busy, I am impressed with the way that Stuart has retained the former saloon and public bars whilst extending the pub to include a restaurant with sea views,

1730 visit. Very busy here with the Bank Holiday beer festival in full swing. Sandgate also had there annual Seafood Festival taking place today. A middle drinking area was used to stillage the ales and the extended rear of this old pub, which overlooks the sea, was being used partly as another drinking area and it's upper part for eating by the looks of things. A fair range of ales on too but we moved on and will return again.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Long Man - Long Blonde3.80GoodIn very good condition. (And at least 15 other ales were on today).

Only the historic back bar open for an early lunchtime visit. Not busy, but some, um, mildly eccentric customers in.

We had a good chat with Stuart and Wendy who gave us a very interesting history of the pub. The bar area has not been altered since 1952.

Arrived about 10.30pm and there were a few people at the bar and a few sitting down. Seemed a friendly pub with good red leather padded benches.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Greene King - Fireside4.50PoorThink of a pint of brown water with a sickly bitter sweet taste. That was this pint
Hop Back - Summer Lightning5.00Not TriedCharlie and Martin's pint looked a bit cloudy to me but they said it wasn't too bad a pint

Great location near the seafront in Sandgate. Upto 6 beers on, normally a couple from Greene King. Wednesday early evening, there were quite a few people sat outside enjoying the sunshine with only a handfull of customers inside
BeerABVScoreNotes
Greene King - Ale Fresco4.30AcceptableSmell of cinnamon and floral hops. Lots of citric lemon flavour and hoppy lemony finish. Fruit is a tad artificial and doesn't mesh with the rest of the pint
Hopdaemon - Incubus4.00PoorNormally one of my favourite beers, the last 2 pints I have had of this have not been good. This one tasted of tea with some malt fruit and then more tea on the end. Not very good at all

2 room pub with a central bar and side corridor near the sea front. Smallish snug front room with red leather seats, some made from barrels. Real fire and seating outside in the summer. Lighter rear room for locals. Upto 6 beers on served carefully by experienced landlord
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hop Back - Summer Lightning5.00GoodHad a certain creamy bitterness to it. First pint from the barrel
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%)3.40AcceptableYeasty mid brown bitter with acidic hops on end

BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Incubus4.00ExcellentOn gravity, great best bitter which hits all the right notes. Hoppy taste grows and grows - nutty with some fruit and sweetness that offsets the initial bitterness. Nice.
Hop Back - Summer Lightning5.00GoodNot bad, but it's been better here. Nearing the end of the barrel methinks.
