09 Dec 2008 (Blair)
It's been quite a while since I was last here, so made extra effort. It was really quiet, at one point us being the only people in. But then it was a tuesday night.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dark Conspiracy | 4.90 | | The best this beer has tasted! Rich, thick and exceptionally smooth. I had 3 and each one tasted better than the one before. |
Oakleaf (now see Fallen Acorn entries) - Bitter | 3.80 | | Good initially with nice malt and caramel flavour, but then a harsh soapy aftertaste ruined it a little. Maybe it was just because the Dark Conspiracy was so good it made everything else taste mediocre. |
Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Springhead - Liberty | 3.80 | Not Tried
18 Nov 2008 (Blair)
Fairly busy in tonight, good friendly banter from the locals.
Hogs Back - OTT Old Tongham Tasty | 6.00 | | In a more generous mood I'd give this 5, it was fantastic. Rich and chocolatey with that lovely tartness. A great beer. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's Winter Warmer | 5.00 | | Dark and fruity winter ale. Pretty good actually. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
08 Nov 2008 (Blair)
I got caught in a downpour on the way here and was soaked through. Luckily it was warm inside so all the more reason to stay for a few.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | Yup, this beer is good. Malty best bitter. |
Country Life - Golden Pig | 4.70 | | One of my friends liked this, but I wasn't overly impressed. Quite fruity but just not that interesting. |
Mauldons - Mid-Autumn Gold | 4.20 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
06 Nov 2008 (Blair)
Arrived just before last orders, they seemed to be having some kind of function going on. Just had a quick half then carried on my walk round broadstairs.
Mauldons - Mid-Autumn Gold | 4.20 | | Alright, overly sweet in a synthetic kind've way. Maybe this is what diacetyl is, I'm not sure. It wasn't great though. |
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
29 Oct 2008 (Blair)
For the first time ever I sat in the saloon bar today, it really feels like a completely different pub. has a slightly older clinetele, but still jolly friendly. I was offered various food stuffs, including pizza and olives among others. Good times.
Houston - Texus | 4.50 | | Rich and chocolatey with a nice maltiness. I actually really liked this. |
Elland - Best Bitter | 4.00 | | Quite malty with a little citrus and straw. Perfectly fine. |
Marston's - Bass | 4.40 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried

The usual suspects in tonight. Just popped in for a few with my dad.
Breconshire - Naked Beacon | 4.80 | | Brownish amber ale. Quite complex with a little fruit and a bit of chocolate. Very tasty. |
Titanic - White Star (superseded by 4.5% version - see separate entry) | 4.80 | | Creamy, fruit flavoured beer. Quite sweet, pretty good. |
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | | A very good bitter. Lots of malt with some nice toffee going on. |

21 Oct 2008 (Blair)
Popped in just as they called last orders. It was freezing out so nice to get in somewhere warm.
Harviestoun - Number of the Beast | 3.60 | | Fruity and bitter. Not bad, but not worth drinking again. |
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
16 Oct 2008 (Blair)
The walk here seems to be becoming a bit of a routine lately, not that that's a bad thing. Fair few in tonight.
Arundel - Stronghold | 4.70 | | Dark chestnut coloured. Very rich fruit flavour with a bit of chocolate in there. Really good beer. |
Butcombe - Gold | 4.40 | | Amber coloured, quite fruity with nice malts. Little toffee to go with it. I enjoyed it. |

Wyre Piddle - Piddle All Over | 4.20 | Not Tried
14 Oct 2008 (Blair)
Exactly the same people in as last night, which for some reason amused me. Yeah a friend of mine had never been here before and had heard me waffling on about it so I took her along.
Cotleigh - Harrier Lite | 3.50 | | I quite liked this one. Malty bitter with a fair amount of fruitiness. Lots of flavour for only 3.5%. |
Wyre Piddle - Piddle All Over | 4.20 | | This was quite nice, sweet with a lot of toffee going on. Maybe the toffee dominated a little too much though. |
Whitstable - East India Pale Ale (or EIPA) | 4.10 | Not Tried
Arundel - Stronghold | 4.70 | Not Tried
Surrey Hills - Shere Drop | 4.20 | Not Tried
