17 Mar 2007 (Andrew)
Adrain and I got a seat at the bar from where, an hour and a half later I had to run to avoid missing the last bus home. Good atmosphere with a mix of students and locals
| Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | Must have been bottom of the barrel as it went off soon after we had it. |
| Highgate - Irish Whiskey Ale | 4.60 | | Bit of nothing really. Some malt and a hint of heathery whiskey I guess. Could have done without drinking it to be honest |
| Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried | |
| Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Tiger | 4.20 | Not Tried | Went off soon after we arived |
29 Nov 2006 (Adrian)
Great pub and very friendly landlord. I've been going there for over 2 years. Normally drink Harvey's or will try one of their guest beers.
| Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | | |
| Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | |
19 Aug 2006 (Andrew)
Having been told that the student union at Canterbury Christ Church was shut when it clearly wasn't we went to the New Inn. The beer range here seems to be getting worse each time I go in.
| Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | Harvey's alright but a bit tired |
| Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried | |
19 Aug 2006 (Ian)
A few locals in on a Saturday evening, but pretty quiet.
| Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | Yeast, green apple aroma and then good malts in the mouth. Very suppable best bitter. |
| Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried | |
04 Mar 2006 (Ian)
Pub no. 3 on my pub crawl after The Phoenix and Thomas Ingoldsby. Only me and 2 other drinkers who were talking about buses on the Isle of Wight. The landlord was his usual self. The pub itself is a converted terrace house with a front room that contains the bar, a games room with TV and a corridor cum conservatory. Bar has 6 handpumps that normally has something from Greene King plus guests
| Hidden - Treasure | 4.80 | | Deep copper colour with bubbly beige head. Caramel, toffee, slightly toasty aroma with rich toffee/hop and ginger finish. Very good dry malt aroma. Malty, chewy, bit of ginger spice. Pretty good this. Some roasted malt. |
| Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried | |
| Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | Not Tried | |
| Brains - The Rev James Original | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
| Adnams - Southwold Bitter (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | Not Tried | |
24 Sep 2005 (Andrew)
Early evening and there were a handfull of regulars at the bar. Usually there are more beers on than this but maybe there'd been a heavy lunch time session.
| Robinsons - Lighthouse | 4.00 | | A cider-hop nose with intensive apple and hop taste. There was a fair bit of sediment in this so I couldn't tell if it was on the turn or supposed to taste like a hopped cider. Either way it wasn't very nice. |
| Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried | |
| Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
09 Jul 2005 (Ian)
Nearing the end of our pub crawl with Andrew. Fairly quiet on a Saturday evening. Up to 6 beers on but only 3 on this visit
| Batemans - Jester IPA | 3.50 | | Orange colour. Some caramel and some hop but pretty unremarkable |
| Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried | |
| Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Best | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
09 Jul 2005 (Andrew)
Just a few people in. Has a Goacher's beer mat on the wall but I've yet to see a Goacher's beer on.
| Batemans - Jester IPA | 3.50 | | Orange coloured beer with the aftertaste of fags in an ashtray |
| Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried | |
| Peak Ales - Best Bitter | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
05 Jul 2005 (Ian)
Fairly quiet on a Tuesday evening, just the 3 beers on. Juke box is pretty good. Good local pub especially if you live in the same street and you can pop across the road for a pint, like the guy I saw when I was unlocking my bike who braved the rain for the 3 seconds it took to run from his front door to the pub
| Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Best | 4.00 | | Reddish copper colour, hop and yeast nose, acidic yeasty flavour with malt and very floral hop finish. Can never decide if I like it or not. Well served though |
| Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried | |
| Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
11 Jun 2005 (Andrew)
Fairly quiet early afternoon. Lots of beer mats on the wall to keep the beer enthusiast happy.
| Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Kelham Gold | 3.80 | | Very bitter pale yellow beer. Not much more depth to it than that. Perhaps a slight taste of sulphur. |
| Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried | |
| Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
| Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
