Disappointing beer selection. Seems like Aberdeenshire landlords have an aversion to light, hoppy (summery) beers.

Rain and showers. Quiet really.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Stewart - Solas5.00GoodNot a fan of Stewart's house style which always seems to be thin and lacking Solas came as a pleasant surprise. It's their take on an IPA/red ale. Surprisingly robust and full bodied it could take the pronounced hops easily. More care in hop selection and use would have given this an 'excellent' rating.

Quiet - mostly locals in for a chat.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Three Castles - Castle Wheat4.50PoorLacking in spice, body or anything really. Again slightly astringent.
Black Wolf (formerly Traditional Scottish Ales (TSA)) - Knops IPA5.00PoorClear golden ale, thin white head, vegetable aroma, malty, no body, bitter with a bit of astringency in the finish

Very busy early evening but then it is Friday.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Stewart - Pentland IPA4.10AcceptableThis is what I wrote July 2010: 'Just about acceptable. Thin in the mouth with only the merest hint of hops.' Still the same.
Timothy Taylor - Landlord4.30PoorEnd of cask. Didn't pull easily, tired and yeasty.

Pleasantly busy early evening. Fast friendly service.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fyne - West Highland Black IPA5.30ExcellentJet black with a long lasting beige head. This smelled fruity and inviting. Plenty of hops with interesting sharpness from the malt. Lingering dry finish.

Mostly regulars enjoying the football. No commensurate excitement on the beer front. Sad to see how the bottles have dropped from around 100 to 5.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Burnside - Wild Rhino4.50AcceptableInitially good in the mouth. Some spice and fruit and good malt. But something in the short finish wasn't quite right. Maybe a touch astringent or soapy or phenolic - couldn't quite catch it.
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA3.80Not Tried
Timothy Taylor - Landlord4.30Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot5.00Not TriedMaybe try to get something from Tempest, Tryst, Harviestoun etc but why should a POTY bother with this as guest??
Inveralmond - Dunottar4.20Not Tried
Caledonian - Autumn Red4.40Not TriedScored at 19 out of 100 by RateBeer so not an item to get excited about.
28 Oct 2011 (McGargle)
Busy and friendly as usual.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Orkney (Sinclair) - Wayfarer IPA (Atlas range)4.40AcceptableMuch drier than previous examples.
Fyne - West Highland Black IPA5.30PoorReally been looking forward to trying this but the first acetic whiff (carried through to the flavour) indicated a beer on or past the turn. Great shame.

In with a group of friends. Disappointing to report that we all felt the ales were served too cold.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Deeside - Bydand4.00GoodDescribed as exceptionally fruity and so it was. A golden ale with tropical summer fruits in abundance but needed more from the malts. Short finish
