A late-evening visit here makes it three breweries tonight within walking distance of home. It would have been four but for the intolerable crowding at Crate.
Track - Mazama | 5.50 | | A very nice, strongly-flavoured, US-style IPA. |
Salopian - Oracle | 4.00 | Not Tried
Windsor & Eton - Guardsman | 4.20 | Not Tried
Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried

20 May 2015 (Stephen Harris)
In here around an hour after I had whizzed through Stratford International station on a Eurostar. If only it lived up to its ‘International’ name and international trains actually stopped there.
Tap East - IPA | 6.00 | | On superb form. |
Hop Back - Mosaic | 4.50 | | I know I keep saying that I think Mosaic hops best suit a dark beer, but this was pale and excellent. |
Oakham - Hawse Buckler | 5.60 | Not Tried
Hawkshead - Cumbrian Five Hop | 5.00 | Not Tried
Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried
Tap East - Chocolate Mild | 3.50 | Not Tried
17 May 2015 (Stephen Harris)
I don’t seem to have noted several recent visits here – but I was present on Sunday evening, and an old friend from Lewisham was filling me in on pub developments south of the river.
Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | | As lovely as ever. |
Mallinsons - Casbalypso | 4.10 | | Very fruity hop tastes. |
Hawkshead - Sundown | 4.50 | | A Red IPA. Good blend of sweetish malt and bitter hop. |
Northern Monk - Eternal Session IPA | 4.10 | | Pale gold, hoppy Pale Ale. Odd hops though – didn’t work for me. |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur | 5.90 | Not Tried
Tap East - East End Mild | 3.50 | Not Tried
Tap East - Phoenix Red | 4.00 | Not Tried
03 May 2015 (Jack William)
Just before 6 - nicely busy - I have deliberately finished my 3 day cycle ride here. Gratefully quaff some Oakhams that has been sadly missing from the pubs I have visited (8 more to add
for the last two days).
Oakham - Nekomata | 5.00 | | On tap dispense - but lovely. |
01 May 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Mid to late-evening.
Shiny - Crown of Bhutan | 6.00 | | Hurrah, a Black IPA. Gorgeous. Where have all the Black IPAs been hiding recently? |
Heavy Industry - Freak Chick | 4.60 | | Nice, clean, brown, Best Bitter. |
Tap East - Phoenix Red | 4.00 | Not Tried
East London (ELB) - Spring Fling | 4.20 | Not Tried
28 Apr 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Mid to late-evening after work. Steady flow of people passing through. A good chance to try the Tap East IPA and APA alongside top of the range equivalents from other breweries.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | | Very similar in taste to the TAP East equivalent – both are excellent. |
Oakham - Green Devil IPA | 6.00 | | Just a shade more bitter than the Tap East equivalent. |
Tap East - A.P.A. (American Pale Ale) | 4.30 | | Excellent, full-bodied APA. Every bit as good as the Dark Star equivalent. |
Tap East - IPA | 6.00 | | Fully stands up alongside the Oakham Green Devil IPA. Slightly more of a fruity, less bitter, character. |
Shiny - New World Pale | 3.70 | Not Tried
Tap East - Phoenix Red | 4.00 | Not Tried
21 Apr 2015 (Stephen Harris)
The CAMRA group I am with has grown to around twenty strong and we remain here until closing time. The purpose of the visit is to present a certificate for Tap East’s Coffee in the Morning, an award winner in a Champion Beer of Britain regional judging.
Sambrook's - Imperial Stout (keg) | 10.40 | | On key-keg and pricy, but absolutely wonderful stuff. |
Shiny - Strong Pail | 5.00
