11:10 am. Just me, the bar maid and the pub dog. Nice proper village pub this.
Wantsum - 1381 | 3.80 | | Good condition. Light golden bitter. Reedy with rose notes. Nice. This nearly as good as Canterbury Ales Wife of Bath. Nearly :-) |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Robinsons - Dizzy Blonde Amarillo Pale Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried
17 Jan 2015 (Andrew)
Jane and Isabel were going to get their hair cut in Wingham so I tagged along. I lived here for a number of years so it was interesting to come back. The Anchor is a really nice pub with lots of old beams and hops. 3 beers on now including a Kent micro.
Wantsum - Hengist | 5.00 | | Good condition. Soft in the mouth. Hint of marzipan. Rich light brown colour |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Brains - First Gold | 3.80 | Not Tried
06 Jan 2013 (John Kirk)
My visit coincided with the pub's regular Sunday afternoon live music spot. The place was very busy; and the atmosphere was brilliant! Before joining the music lovers in the main bar, I squeezed into the packed restaurant and had a very nice (and reasonably priced!) Sunday roast. The staff were friendly and helpful - A great pub: I'll definitely go back there.
20 Nov 2005 (Andrew)
It was mid evening and the main bar was fairly busy as they had a live singer in.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | | A good pint. Bitter to start with followed by deep malt and some caramel on the finish |
15 May 2005 (Andrew)
Only 2 other people in on a late Saturday afternoon. In fact I've never been in it with more than a handfull of other drinkers - but then I don't often go in
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | | Slighly hoppy, sligtly malty brown beer |
15 May 2005 (Ian)
Village pub with lots of wood in evidence in the interior. Only London Pride available as a bitter when I visited. Very pleasant.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | | This was fine. Slightly too cold but had some caramel and hops |
05 Mar 2005 (Andrew)
We turned up just before closing so got a rather frosty reception. The pub was fairly quiet.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | | As good as London Pride gets. |
15 Jan 2005 (Andrew)
Virtually empty except for a few locals sitting around the bar. It's a loverly pub and really feels like a drinkers venue not a resturant
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | | Nice. I know that's a bland comment but it was, well, nice. |
15 Jan 2005 (Cam)
Late afternoon after a couple of JHBs from Canterbury Beer shop
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | | Bit flat, bit yeasty but OK. |
02 Oct 2004 (Andrew)
The main bar had locals in it and kind of locals who drink. The bar was fairly large but seemed to have only 1 cider and 1 bitter or at least that's what I noticed. It would have been fine if not for a gang of noisy 'youth' hanging the side bar - but they weren't too intrusive.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | | Exceptionally nice for what has become quite a bland beer. It was back to how I remember it 5 or 6 years ago when you only seemed to find it in London. |
