Very relaxed atmosphere in this pub, it must be, I was here for nearly 6 hours. Beer is always good and Charlie is a really good landlord. Here with Andrew, Jane and Martin
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | | Mid red brown with thin bubbly beige head. Some nice fruit, but a tad watery, good red fruits and hop. But still a tad thin. OK but normally a bit fuller and creamier |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 7 | 3.80 | | Very drinkable. Enough caramel and hop to keep you interested. Good session beer |
Arundel - Sussex Mild | 3.70 | | Black beer with thin dark beige head. Bit of dark toffee/treacle with lots of dark choc. More choc and some coffee in mouth with some grainyness. Not a lot of hop, but good mild though |
Cottage - Southern Bitter | 3.70 | | Hazy deep copper colour with thin disappearing head. Quite nice strawberry fruit and caramel. Quite rich like some Cottage beers |

Came back for more Leviathan, only to find that it had all been drunk (mainly by the staff I hear).
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | | Always a good bet, but I was still bemoaning the lack of Leviathan. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - ESB | 5.50 | | Not bad I suppose, a bit like London Pride's slightly more sophisticated elder brother. |
Beartown (latterly part of Manning Brewers) - Amberdextrous | 3.80 | Not Tried | Alan (the other resident mild drinker) said it was very good but not as good as Black Cat. Should be spelt Am"bear"dextrous -geddit?? |
Whitstable - Oyster Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried
1648 - Signature | 4.40 | Not Tried

Just happened to be passing
Hopdaemon - Leviathan | 6.00 | | First time for me. Fantastic citrus flavour, full of grapefruit and tangerines. |
Whitstable - Oyster Stout | 4.50 | | Great chocolate and coffee aroma and sweet aftertaste. |
Batemans - Dark Mild | 3.00 | Not Tried
1648 - Signature | 4.40 | Not Tried
19 Nov 2005 (Brian)
Called in on Friday when the beer was excellent, so found the time for a quick Saturday afternoon visit as well.
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | | At risk of repeating myself, but this is great. A full citrus flavour that lingers. Charlie said it had a bit of a haze to it but it seemed perfect to me. |
1648 - Original | 3.90 | | Quite dry, with some citrus, not much else happening though. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 3 | 5.00 | Not Tried
Copper Dragon - Black Gold | 3.70 | Not Tried
19 Nov 2005 (Andrew)
In for lunch and a couple of pints. There was a good atmosphere and the fire helped warm us up whilst the first pint kicked in. Had a chat with Brian who'd popped in for a quick one.
Copper Dragon - Black Gold | 3.70 | | Good sweet burnt malt flavour with a burnt malt and bitter finish |
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | | Good bitterness and that rich Hopdaemon taste. Perhaps one for a hot day. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 3 | 5.00 | Not Tried
1648 - Original | 3.90 | Not Tried

Got there in the early evening and had a really nice plate of fish and chips. A handful of locals in who were all very friendly. Great pub.
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | | Tasted of lychee and melon. Not the usual taste I associate Incubus with but very nice it was anyway |
Orkney (Sinclair) - Raven Ale | 3.80 | | Amber in colour with an aggresively bitter marmalade taste |
Cottage - Howling Ale | 4.50 | | Had this here on Saturday and it wasn't half as good then as now. It now had a loverly gentle orange bitter taste. |
Arundel - Sussex Mild | 3.70 | | Cold creamy coffee with chocolate and a sweet bitter finish |
05 Nov 2005 (Andrew)
Got there around lunch time and, not surprisingly, had some lunch (which was very good). A bit later we sat at the bar with Brian and Pete.
Cottage - Howling Ale | 4.50 | | You can't go too far wrong with a cottage. This one was amber in colour with a rich hop malt taste |
Mauldons - Micawber's Mild | 3.50 | | A black mild with a bitter sweet taste. In the classic midlands style of mild but not my cup of tea. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Orkney (Sinclair) - Raven Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 3 | 5.00 | Not Tried
11 Oct 2005 (Brian)
Sorry, I'm starting to sound like the Yew Tree correspondent, but had to add a new beer.
Cottage - Deltic Diesel | 4.70 | | Dark brown bitter, thin white head, floral notes mask the strength. Long lasting hops in the mouth. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Moorhouse's - Black Cat Mild | 3.40 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | Not Tried
1648 - Bee-Head | 4.60 | Not Tried
08 Oct 2005 (Brian)
Really good Saturday afternoon session, I always intend to go home earlier, but with such a range of beers available you just have to try them out.
Moorhouse's - Black Cat Mild | 3.40 | | Lovely dark chocolate and coffee aroma, good body and smooth finish. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | | Nice foamy white head and dark body, lacks a bit in comparison to Hopdaemon's Skrimshander |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | | Very dry, and bitter, clear metallic taste, not enough happening for my taste though |
Hop Back - Summer Lightning | 5.00 | Not Tried
1648 - Bee-Head | 4.60 | Not Tried
08 Oct 2005 (Andrew)
Arrived about 3pm and sat at the bar with Jane, Brian. The beer was excellent as always but what's also great about coming here is that you get to meet lots of interesting people.
Moorhouse's - Black Cat Mild | 3.40 | | Smooth and black. Great burnt malt flavour and plenty of hops too. Can't beat it. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | | I'm not a Gadds fan usually but this was very good. Light and crisp with good bitter finish. |
1648 - Bee-Head | 4.60 | | A golden beer with a rich herby taste to it. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Hop Back - Summer Lightning | 5.00 | Not Tried
