14 Feb 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening stop on the way home. Pub very busy with after-workers and post-shoppers.
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - McConnel's | 5.00 | | Black, dry, creamy stout with vanilla flavour. |
Tap East - IPA | 5.80 | | What tasted fruity on Monday, today tastes spicy and peppery. All-English hops in this one I think. |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Kipling | 5.20 | Not Tried
Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried
Tap East - Sixpence Stout | 5.00 | Not Tried
10 Feb 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Just passing through after work, but ran in to a couple of friends and decided to stay a while and sample some IPAs.
Burning Sky - Devil's Rest IPA | 7.00 | | Superb, strong IPA. |
Tap East - IPA | 5.80 | | I think this is back to the original recipe, rather than one of the single-hop variety IPAs produced here. Nice and fruity. |
Siren Craft - Neither Imperial IPA | 8.30 | | On keg dispense, chilled and lightly carbonated. Had what I call a ‘cardboard’ hop taste that you sometimes find in US bottled beers which I had always thought of as staleness or light damage. But, assuming this keg was fairly brewery-fresh, I assume it is just a hop taste I don’t like. |
Windsor & Eton - Tree Tops | 4.40 | Not Tried
Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried
Tap East - Sixpence Stout | 5.00 | Not Tried
Oakham - Dolphin Dance | 3.70 | Not Tried

27 Jan 2014 (Stephen Harris)
At last it seems that the post-Christmas shopping frenzy is starting to die down and Westfield was not too manic this-evening. Still good to reach the calm of this pub though.
Harbour - Porter No.1 | 5.50 | | A Stout Porter in all but name I think. |
Tap East - IPA Chinook | 5.80 | | Classy, strong IPA. |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Waen - Blackberry Stout | 3.80 | Not Tried
Waen - TWA | 3.70 | Not Tried

23 Jan 2014 (Stephen Harris)
A busy night at Tap East with the tapping of a special beer which has been quietly aging away in a wooden red wine barrel.
Tap East - La Lumière Rouge | 7.40 | | A wooden barrel-aged saison style beer. Amber/red in colour. It is smooth and warming, a bit spicy and a bit sour. |
Tap East - IPA Chinook | 5.80 | | Pale, hoppy, strong and bitter. |
Ilkley - Forbidden Fruit | 5.00 | | A pale ale brewed with experimental Hop #1391, which imparts a strong grapefruit-like flavour. The addition to this beer of some pink grapefruit juice during the brewing process enhances the taste. |
Pig & Porter - Red Spider Rye (superseded by 4.8% version) | 5.50 | | Pig & Porter are now brewing on their own plant in Tunbridge Wells. |
Okell's - Olaf | 3.90 | Not Tried
Tap East - Sixpence Stout | 5.00 | Not Tried
18 Jan 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Late afternoon on a Saturday and it is crowded in here. The tailenders of a North London Line pubcrawl are still here when I arrive, and they seem to have had a good day.
Burning Sky - Aurora | 5.60 | | Hard-core, fierce, strong, golden IPA. |
Out There - Laika | 4.80 | | I enjoy a good Belgian-style Witbier. But I’m afraid I didn’t much like this one. |
Titanic - Wreckage | 7.20 | Not Tried
Tap East - AKA Red Ale | 4.80 | Not Tried
Okell's - Olaf | 3.90 | Not Tried

Oakham - Citra | 4.20 | | Very yummy indeed. |
Tap East - Sixpence Stout | 5.00 | | Lush. |
Mallinsons - Emley Moor | 3.40 | | Very dark ruby red in colour. Roasted barley and fruity malt tastes. |
Okell's - IPA (or Dr Okell's IPA) | 4.50 | Not Tried
Titanic - Wreckage | 7.20 | Not Tried
Tap East - A.P.A. (American Pale Ale) | 4.30 | Not Tried
Tap East - AKA Red Ale | 4.80 | Not Tried
Burning Sky - Aurora | 5.60 | Not Tried | Ran out. |
27 Dec 2013 (Stephen Harris)
I think it was Pete Brown who compared the Westfield shopping centre to Dante’s Inferno. It’s an apt comparison and the fiery furnaces of Hell are on full blast today for the legions of shopping addicts thronging its corridors. Luckily, the Tap is in Limbo, right at the edge of the outer circle, and accessible without too much harrowing.
Harbour - Chocolate Vanilla Imperial Stout | 8.50 | | The tasting notes are in the name. Heavenly. |
Okell's - St. Nick | 4.50 | | None of the Christmas spice I feared in here. Comes across as a hoppy, amber ale. |
Tap East - Jim's Pro-logue | 3.80 | | Sweetish best bitter with a slight metallic edge. |
Tap East - Saison Vic Secret | 6.30 | Not Tried
Out There - Space is the Place | 3.50 | Not Tried
Tap East - Old Blonk (Bloodaxe Brewery brewed at Tap East) | 5.00 | Not Tried
