26 Dec 2013 (ChrisE)
This pub is so handy for Stratford International Railway Station, I met Phillip Pirrip here and was pleasantly surprised to meet up with a couple of friends who had travelled up by train and were on their way to watch West Ham v Arsenal. In spite of the shopping centre being packed to the gunnels this pub was still comfortable and welcoming. The barman showed us some bottles of Wells and Young's Courage Imperial Russian Stout that he was going to drink later in the day. Were we jealous? well yes.

15 Dec 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Sunday evening visit, once the shoppers have departed.
Tap East - Old Blonk (Bloodaxe Brewery brewed at Tap East) | 5.00 | | – Initially brewed as Tap East’s festival beer for Pig’s Ear – where it was accidentally labelled as Old Bonk. Not an Old Ale as I had anticipated, but a nicely-hopped, amber-coloured beer. |
Ilkley - Mary Christmas | 4.70 | | Heavily-spiced, pale ale. |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Christmas Ale | 6.00 | | Very malty, dark brown, sweetish bitter. Not really to my liking. |
Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | Not Tried
Out There - Celestial Love | 5.10 | Not Tried
Tap East - Scarred Belgian | 7.40 | Not Tried
01 Dec 2013 (Stephen Harris)

17 Nov 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Sunday evenings seem to be a particularly pleasant time to visit this pub.
Celt Experience (now brands are owned by Evans Evans) - Ogham Oak | 8.50 | | I was really impressed with this strong beer (£4:50 a pint) that is a kind of cross between a Belgian Tripel and a tropical-fruity American hoppy ale. |
Tap East - IPA (Simcoe) | 5.80 | | The current version ofthe IPA is featuring Simcoe hops, and very nice it is too. |
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | Not Tried
Vale - Black Swan Mild | 3.90 | Not Tried
Tap East - East End Mild | 3.50 | Not Tried
Tap East - Latte in the Morning | 4.40 | Not Tried
16 Nov 2013 (Wittenden)
Early doors on a Saturday morning.I was enroute between Stratford stations, and needed to gird myself for the traverse of Westfield. I was the only customer-it was packed on my return several hours later.
Oakham - Citra | 4.20 | | Very pale, very citrussy.Interesting, but not really my type of beer. |
Ilkley - Mary Jane | 3.50 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Green Hop IPA | 6.50 | Not Tried
Tap East - East End Mild | 3.50 | Not Tried
Bexar County - Sabor | 4.30 | Not Tried
10 Nov 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Evening visit after a day out in Kent on the Bullet Train. Almost all of the festival beers still on; the crowd of drinkers distinctly less frantic than on Friday evening. I list just those I drank.
Siren Craft - Ryesing Tides IPA | 7.40 | | Great, strong, hoppy, rye beer. |
Tap East - Scarred American | 6.60 | | A blend of ‘Scarred Belgian’ and ‘American Pale Ale’. Unusual mix of flavours, but very quaffable for its strength. |
Redemption - Trinity (Nelson Sauvin) | 3.00 | | The Nelson Sauvin hop seems even scarcer than usual this year – possibly because it is all in here. So hoppy, the beer appeared to have a green edge to its gold colour. |
Tap East - Latte in the Morning | 4.40 | | Brewed in collaboration with Thornbridge. Black. Some sweetness. Bitter, roast coffee flavours prominent. |
08 Nov 2013 (Stephen Harris)
The first evening of a three day beer festival to celebrate the second anniversary of Tap East Brewery coming on stream.
Redemption - Little Chief | 4.20 | | Lovely. |
Tap East - Scarred Belgian | 7.40 | | Beer brewed in collaboration with Celt Experience. In a Belgian Tripel style. |
Tap East - London Wit | 4.40 | | Beer brewed in collaboration with London Brewing Co. Cloudy wheat beer in Belgian style. |
Bexar County - Sabor | 4.30 | | A dark, hoppy beer. |
Tap East - American Tonic | 3.80 | | This beer is a blend of the usual Tonic Ale and the American Pale Ale. Pretty good, but I think I prefer both of them straight. First beer to sell out. |
East London (ELB) - Nightwatchman | 4.50 | | This cask dry-hopped with East Kent Goldings (another was available with Brewers Gold). Unfortunately it was in very flat condition from the stillage and lacking in even the usual flavours. |
Shiny - Pail NZ | 4.00 | | Another that suffered from lifeless condition, subduing all flavours. |
Sambrook's - Powerhouse Porter | 4.90 | Not Tried
Tap East - Smokestack Porter | 6.50 | Not Tried
Oakham - Green Hop Harvest Ale | 3.60 | Not Tried
Siren Craft - Ryesing Tides IPA | 7.40 | Not Tried
Tap East - Latte in the Morning | 4.40 | Not Tried
Tap East - Scarred American | 6.60 | Not Tried
Windsor & Eton - Special IPA | 5.00 | Not Tried
Windsor & Eton - Irish Conqueror | 5.80 | Not Tried
