Noon day meet up with ChrisE. We coveted the barman's bottles of 2012 and 2013 Wells & Young's Courage Imperial Russian Stout and he gave us some tips on where we might find them for sale.

This pub is so handy for Stratford International Railway Station, I met Phillip Pirrip here and was pleasantly surprised to meet up with a couple of friends who had travelled up by train and were on their way to watch West Ham v Arsenal. In spite of the shopping centre being packed to the gunnels this pub was still comfortable and welcoming. The barman showed us some bottles of Wells and Young's Courage Imperial Russian Stout that he was going to drink later in the day. Were we jealous? well yes.

Evening visit for a couple of pints before travelling home on HS1. Plenty of trade here tonight with a lot of interest in the keg and Belgian beers that were on sale.

Sunday evening visit, once the shoppers have departed.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - Old Blonk (Bloodaxe Brewery brewed at Tap East)5.00Excellent– Initially brewed as Tap East’s festival beer for Pig’s Ear – where it was accidentally labelled as Old Bonk. Not an Old Ale as I had anticipated, but a nicely-hopped, amber-coloured beer.
Ilkley - Mary Christmas4.70GoodHeavily-spiced, pale ale.
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Christmas Ale6.00AcceptableVery malty, dark brown, sweetish bitter. Not really to my liking.

Sunday evenings seem to be a particularly pleasant time to visit this pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Celt Experience (now brands are owned by Evans Evans) - Ogham Oak8.50ExceptionalI was really impressed with this strong beer (£4:50 a pint) that is a kind of cross between a Belgian Tripel and a tropical-fruity American hoppy ale.
Tap East - IPA (Simcoe)5.80ExcellentThe current version ofthe IPA is featuring Simcoe hops, and very nice it is too.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)4.70Not Tried

Early doors on a Saturday morning.I was enroute between Stratford stations, and needed to gird myself for the traverse of Westfield. I was the only customer-it was packed on my return several hours later.

10 Nov 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Evening visit after a day out in Kent on the Bullet Train. Almost all of the festival beers still on; the crowd of drinkers distinctly less frantic than on Friday evening. I list just those I drank.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Siren Craft - Ryesing Tides IPA7.40ExcellentGreat, strong, hoppy, rye beer.
Tap East - Scarred American6.60ExcellentA blend of ‘Scarred Belgian’ and ‘American Pale Ale’. Unusual mix of flavours, but very quaffable for its strength.
Redemption - Trinity (Nelson Sauvin)3.00ExcellentThe Nelson Sauvin hop seems even scarcer than usual this year – possibly because it is all in here. So hoppy, the beer appeared to have a green edge to its gold colour.
Tap East - Latte in the Morning4.40GoodBrewed in collaboration with Thornbridge. Black. Some sweetness. Bitter, roast coffee flavours prominent.
08 Nov 2013 (Stephen Harris)
The first evening of a three day beer festival to celebrate the second anniversary of Tap East Brewery coming on stream.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Redemption - Little Chief4.20ExcellentLovely.
Tap East - Scarred Belgian7.40ExcellentBeer brewed in collaboration with Celt Experience. In a Belgian Tripel style.
Tap East - London Wit4.40ExcellentBeer brewed in collaboration with London Brewing Co. Cloudy wheat beer in Belgian style.
Bexar County - Sabor4.30ExcellentA dark, hoppy beer.
Tap East - American Tonic3.80GoodThis beer is a blend of the usual Tonic Ale and the American Pale Ale. Pretty good, but I think I prefer both of them straight. First beer to sell out.
East London (ELB) - Nightwatchman4.50AcceptableThis cask dry-hopped with East Kent Goldings (another was available with Brewers Gold). Unfortunately it was in very flat condition from the stillage and lacking in even the usual flavours.
Shiny - Pail NZ4.00AcceptableAnother that suffered from lifeless condition, subduing all flavours.
