06 May 2014 (ChrisE)
About 4.30pm and comfortably busy, it was a nice sunny day which meant that people drinking outside made plenty of room for those who prefer drinking in a pub rather than outside of one.
Pig & Porter - Oatmeal Stout | 5.10 | | Delicious. |
Oakham - Green Devil IPA | 6.00 | Not Tried
Tap East - A.P.A. (American Pale Ale) | 4.30 | Not Tried

Sunday evening after the crowds have departed. Last day of Brew Pub Week.
Little Earth Project (formerly Mill Green) - Massachusetts Pale Ale | 3.20 | | Lovely, light and hoppy taste. |
Little Earth Project (formerly Mill Green) - Tess of the Compasses | 3.30 | | Sweet red/brown malt tastes, some roastiness, with good hops leading to dry finish. |

Canterbury Brewers - Street Light Porter | 5.80 | Not Tried

24 Apr 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Robert and I moved here when I remembered the Brew Pub focus here this week.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Belgian Pale Ale (Chardonnay-aged) | 5.00 | | On keg dispense. Nothing like any Belgian Pale Ale I’ve ever tasted. This because of the barrel-aging in a white wine cask and the addition of brettanomyces. This gives a pale, cloudy beer with a dry, woody, winey taste and a pleasant sourness. Complex. |
Barnet - Turn Out | 3.90 | | A malty bitter. |
Tap East - Saxon Invasion Sour Ale | 4.60 | | Hard to identify this one as beer. A turbid yellow colour. Extreme and rather one dimensional sourness. Too sour really, I suspect many will have discretely tipped theirs away. I’m perverse enough to quite enjoy this sort of thing. |
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - London Fields Pale Ale | 4.00 | Not Tried
Canterbury Brewers - Topaz | 4.70 | Not Tried
London Brewing Co. - Oyster Stout | 4.80 | Not Tried
People's Pints (Laine - Hackney) - Black IPA | 5.30 | Not Tried
21 Apr 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Mid-evening visit at a quiet time for this pub. A week-long event featuring beers from other brew-pubs begins tonight.
People's Pints (Laine - Hackney) - Black IPA | 5.30 | | Absolutely lush Black IPA. |
Shiny - Tomahawk | 6.00 | | A really very nice US-style Brown IPA. |
Falstaff - A Fist Full of Hops | 4.50 | | Not as hoppy as one might expect from the name. Gold/amber in colour and balanced. |
London Brewing Co. - Oyster Stout | 4.80 | | A pretty decent, smooth, black stout. |
Canterbury Brewers - Topaz | 4.70 | Not Tried | I’m afraid that I was warned off this one by several people in the pub. Crystal malt central apparently. |
13 Apr 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Sunday evening visit when the pub was quiet – in contrast to the Crate Brewery nearby which was too busy to contemplate going in to.
Tap East - IPA | 5.80 | | A 6% version of this beer that was opaque, strong and very fruity. |
Pig & Porter - Penhurst Pale Ale | 4.50 | | Amber, muddy and malty. Perhaps not on best form. |
Oakham - Citra | 4.20 | Not Tried
Harbour - Amber Ale | 4.00 | Not Tried
Burning Sky - Devil's Rest IPA | 7.00 | Not Tried
11 Apr 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Mid-evening visit after the Friday crowds had died down a little and following a stroll around the newly-opened section of the Olympic Park.
Harbour - Light Ale | 3.70 | | Golden, refreshing, crisp, easy-drinking. |
Elephant School (sub-brand of Brentwood)/ XT Brewing Collaboration - Saison Dark | 4.20 | | Really hit the spot. Chocolate malt and wild yeast tastes. |
Tap East - Coffee in the Morning (has been 5.7% too) | 5.60 | Not Tried
Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | Not Tried
Celt Experience (now brands are owned by Evans Evans) - Castell Coch | 4.70 | Not Tried
Burning Sky - Aurora | 5.60 | Not Tried

21 Feb 2014 (Stephen Harris)
An entertaining discussion at the bar around whether the ‘modern’ pentathlon needs further modernisation in time for the next Olympics. Ditch the sword fighting, the swimming and the horsey stuff and bring in texting, tweeting and twerking we thought. There were guest beers from Celt Experience and Shiny, but I did not get their names.
Tap East - Limehouse Wheat | 3.80 | | Cloudy wheat beer. Yellowish in colour. From the Belgian end of the spectrum I thought, with some lemony flavours. |

Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | Not Tried
