Mid-evening visit. The pub hosted its second ‘Open Brewhouse’ festival over the Bank Holiday weekend, and I’m pleased to see that six of the special and collaboration beers are still available.
Tap East - Pomegranate Porter | 4.70 | | I really enjoyed this dark, fruity beer. The roasted barley flavours and the pomegranate seemed to go well together. |
Tap East - Belgian Pale Ale (in collaboration with Canterbury Brewers) | 6.00 | | A collaboration beer with Canterbury Brewers. Golden and a tad hazy. Authentically Belgian flavours with lots of spicy yeast tastes. |
Tap East - Ubique Red IPA (in collaboration with Tap East Brewsters) | 6.30 | | An excellent Red IPA with sweetish sticky malt and bitter hops. |
Tap East - Weisse (in collaboration with Redemption) | 6.50 | | A collaboration beer with Redemption Brewery. A hazy golden colour. Nice wheat beer in the German style. |
Tap East - Summer Ale | 4.60 | Not Tried
Tap East - Blonde | 4.30 | Not Tried

I do like a quiet Sunday evening beer in here when on the way home from somewhere.
Buxton - American Rye | 4.30 | | A cloudy golden colour. Pretty full-on rye tastes, with some US hop character. |
Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter) | 3.80 | | A good quality ‘standard bitter’. |
Oakham - JHB | 3.80 | Not Tried
Tap East - Coffee in the Morning (has been 5.7% too) | 5.60 | Not Tried
27 Jul 2014 (Jack William)
Sunday tea time. Following a good free music festival at the Elizabeth (Olympic) park - but no real ale. Perfect sanctuary here from the adjacent massive shopping mall. Lots more ales - will be back.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | | love this beer - and in first class condition. |
Oakham - Green Devil IPA | 6.00 | | is this just slightly too sweet to be exceptional? |
Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | | The hoppy bite and body of this beer belies it's low ABV - very quaffable. |
Tap East - Smokestack Porter | 6.50 | Not Tried
Rooster's - The Italian Job | 4.70 | Not Tried
29 Jun 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Relaxed Sunday evening session, with the World Cup football on the TV.
Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | | Extra excellent Galaxy version of this beer. |
Weltons - US Congress | 5.00 | | I don’t often pick out the Welton’s beers, but this was a pretty decent, dry US-hopped one. |
Oakham - JHB | 3.80 | Not Tried
Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried
Tap East - Coffee in the Morning (has been 5.7% too) | 5.60 | Not Tried

25 Jun 2014 (Stephen Harris)
I’ve been splashing the cash in M&S and Waitrose and, naturally, ended up in here. There is a slightly odd letter in the current London Drinker magazine moaning about the prices in here. At £3:30 for the home-brew, and £3:60 for real ale guests, I think it compares quite favourably with pubs nearby. Tonight’s Imperial Stout has a special price tag attached mind you, and this was made clear prior to purchase.
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Galaxia (superseded by 4.5% version) | 5.20 | | Great hops, top brewery, superb condition. That’s a five star beer. |
Elgood's - Black Eagle Imperial Stout | 8.70 | | Black, strong and delicious. |
Tap East - Saxon Invasion Sour Ale | 4.60 | | I haven’t drunk this beer since the day it was launched. But I keep reading good reviews (including thebrewingman’s from yesterday) so I thought I should give it another go. Much better than I remembered it. More rounded. Lip-puckeringly sour and refreshing. |
Oakham - Inferno | 4.00 | Not Tried
Tap East - East End Mild | 3.50 | Not Tried
Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried

Early Tuesday afternoon. A few punters about but not busy.
Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | | This one was of the Galaxy variety, nice and hoppy. |
Tap East - Saxon Invasion Sour Ale | 4.60 | | Excellent. Out gueuzed a Belgian gueuze. |
Brewster's - Up to Summit | 4.00 | | I did not take note of the gravity and can't find it on the net. One of the Whimsical series. |
Tap East - East End Mild | 3.50 | Not Tried
Hardknott - Duality | 4.50 | Not Tried
Elgood's - Black Eagle Imperial Stout | 8.70 | Not Tried

Mid-evening visit on the way home from work. Not very busy here tonight.
Oakham - Paranoid | 5.20 | | Amber-coloured. Very slow to clear in the glass. US-style Pale Ale. Massively hoppy, with both bitter and tropical fruit flavours. |

Mid-evening visit after a late departure from work. Stood at the bar talking cycling and Warwickshire pubs with Terry L.
Summer Wine (SWB) - Huldra | 5.40 | | A black, tasty, smoked Porter. |
Tap East - A.P.A. (American Pale Ale) | 4.30 | | Hazy amber in colour. Lots of fruity hop tastes, but I’ve had it better – may have been nearing barrel end. |
