Packed out tonight, great to see. Sat downstairs in the new flight lounge. A pleasure as always.
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Pale Rider | 5.20 | | Great beer. Lemony and fruity, easy to drink. |
Frome (formerly Milk Street) - The Usual (at one time 4.1%) | 4.40 | | Malty best bitter with a pleasant orange flavour to it. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Special (was Special) | 4.50 | Not Tried
25 Jun 2009 (Blair)
It's been a while but home at last. The usual characters. Sat up top, chatted to Ali for a while and got a bit tipsy, good stuff.
Bath Ales - Barnstormer | 4.50 | | Apparently this is a premium bitter. Looks and tastes more like a porter to me. Either way I thought it was fantastic. Light with subtle flavours of coffee and chocolate. A very distinguished beer. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | Malty and fruity, just a great bitter. |
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Pale Rider | 5.20 | | Not as good as I've had it previously for whatever reason, still a very tasty strong pale ale though. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
23 May 2009 (Blair)
May have been a mistake to head here after already doing 2 beer festivals. Nevertheless I remember having a great time. Don't remember leaving so I hope I behaved myself...
Beowulf - Dragonsmoke Stout | 4.70 | | I loved this. Wonderfully rich and smoky stout. I had a fair few of them which I don't normally do, so it must say something. |
Dark Star - Original | 5.00 | | Dark and roasty. A great old ale. |
Springhead - Roaring Meg | 5.50 | | Light and fruity with hops and honey in there. I liked it. |
10 May 2009 (Blair)
It was a gorgeous day so I had to come to the pub. Not overly busy but a steady stream of people came in and out. Good relaxing atmosphere.
RCH - East St Cream (was East Street Cream) | 5.00 | | I love this beer. Malty and creamy, a pleasure to drink. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | Good malty best bitter. |
Whitstable - Oyster Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried

Great beer lineup tonight and a great atmosphere to boot. Had a good chat with Ross the barman and of course Alistair.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Thoroughly Modern Mild | 6.00 | | This was absolutely fantastic. A light amber colour but with the sort of chocolate malt flavour you'd associate with a dark mild. Really rich and incredibly interesting beer. |
Teignworthy - Martha's Mild | 5.30 | | Dark and rich mild. Molasses, smoke and a bit of chocolate make up this beer. I really enjoyed it. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
RCH - East St Cream (was East Street Cream) | 5.00 | Not Tried
RCH - Pitchfork | 4.30 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dragon's Blood ESB | 5.20 | Not Tried
04 May 2009 (Blair)
Busier than Churchill's. Alistair was in. Sat up top, stuck on some Led Zep and had a couple of pints. Perfect.
Dark Star - Original | 5.00 | | A fantastic beer. Thick, rich and satisfying. Chocolate and roasted malt dominate. |
Whitstable - Winkle Picker | 4.50 | | I've never been a fan of The Whitstable Brewery but I was impressed with this. Vibrant fruity bitter with a little malt. Really drinkable. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Special (was Special) | 4.50 | Not Tried
17 Apr 2009 (Blair)
Got here around midnight, I was expecting it to be closed but it was actually heaving. The complete opposite to Churchill's. Sat up top and soaked up the atmosphere.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | | Pale, sweet and very hoppy. A really pleasant beer. |
Oakleaf (now see Fallen Acorn entries) - I Can't Believe It's Not Bitter | 4.20 | | I actually really enjoyed this. Tasted more like a bitter than a lager but with a bit of a lager hint. Light zingy and refreshing. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
05 Apr 2009 (Blair)
Really busy, which is great to see on a sunday evening. Ross behind the bar was telling me all the beers they've got lined up. I think this will be a good week to pay it a couple of vsits.
Stonehenge - Old Smokey | 5.00 | | I haven't been that impressed with any of Stonehenges beers before so I wasn't expecting much of this. However, this beer is actually fantastic. Fruity with lots of roasted malt and obviously a little smokiness. |
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | | Sweet and hoppy with a nice toffee flavour. One of my original favourite ales. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
01 Apr 2009 (Blair)
Wandered here after a couple on Churchill's. It was really busy in tonight Alistair was here as well as Gray the Dray. The new landlord seems to have breathed new life into this pub.
Loddon - Ferryman's Gold | 4.40 | | I didn't expect much from this one for whatever reason but it was really good. Rich, fruity and very refreshing. |
Freeminer - Slaughter Porter | 4.80 | | Very good stout, although it tasted very much of wholemeal bread which was strange at first. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - DogBolter Dark Porter | 5.60 | Not Tried
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Common Conspiracy | 4.80 | Not Tried
21 Mar 2009 (Ian)
Last pub on visit to Ramsgate and Andrew made us make lists of stuff. Nicer now the pub has been re-decorated a bit. Martin and myself then went to Waitrose and had a very funny moment with the woman behind the deli counter. Great beer choice in there as well
Abbeydale - Absolution | 5.30 | | Brilliantly hoppy ESB, lovely and tasty |
Fyne - Vital Spark | 4.40 | | Surprisinly hoppy for a dark beer |
Country Life - Black Boar | 5.00 | | Very dark brown/black beer. Choccy flavours and even a bit sour |
