30 Jan 2011 (Ian)
After the local Camra branch minibus outing, ChrisE and myself decided to unwind from a hard day with a couple of pints here. Relaxed local showing the FA Cup football.
Abigale - Samphire | 4.10 | | Very drinkable likeable biscuity bitter. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
13 Jan 2011 (ChrisE)
I met Ian from this site, and we enjoyed a couple of pints each.
Abigale - Samphire | 4.10 | | Slightly hazy, but a good pint. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
21 Oct 2010 (ChrisE)
Early evening with just a few regulars in the pub. The pub had just put a cask of Gold Top on, and I sent Ian a text to say it was on sale here. To my surprise he turned up about five minutes later.
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Gold Top | 4.30 | | Amongst the best Gold Top that I have tasted. Clive has just installed a stillage for his cask ales which were previously served using a syphon system. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried

The great power of modern communications. Less than 10 minutes after Chris Excell let me know that Old Dairy Gold Top was available here, I was sat next to him enjoying a pint. Decent group of locals in with the football on the TVs.
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Gold Top | 4.30 | | Best I've had it. Good flowery hops on the aroma with some sherbert. Good condition. Very drinkable. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
16 Sep 2010 (ChrisE)
Early evening, and mostly regulars drinking and chatting. Clive informed me that he is now thinking of getting Old Dairy Brewery beers in as his regular guest beer.
Banks's - Bitter | 3.80 | | |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
05 Sep 2010 (ChrisE)
A good turn out for the Sunday evening quiz. Clive informed me that he has applied to join the SIBA direct delivery scheme, and he hopes to stock a beer from Gadds' range in the near future.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70
Banks's - Bitter | 3.80 | | Towards the end of the cask, and it ran out whilst we were there. |
23 Dec 2009 (Ian)
After some very long days at work I really needed to have a sit in a pub. I was going to go to Maidstone but the snow stopped all the trains, so I ended up here instead. As I was pulling up on my bike, Whinger from this site, walked past so we went in and had a couple of pints.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | Very drinkable bitter. Decent condition and had very good Harvey's yeast character. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
22 Sep 2008 (Ian)
It was my sister's birthday and I had to drop off her present, so I had to be on the wrong side of the tracks in Ashford anyway and sometimes you just need a pint of Harvey's. This really does feel like someone's front room. I sat and just relaxed.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | Good beer, just a little muddy in the flavours. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
09 Sep 2008 (Ian)
Chris Excell tipped me the wink that this pub was now serving Harvey's. And it was!!! Not very busy, but I didn't care.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | Decent condition, decent flavour, maybe a bit lacking from perfection in terms of sharpness of the flavours, but still lovely. Landlord said he'd had Harvey's on for quite a while now. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
28 Feb 2008 (Ian)
Pub number 2 on crawl. Had a refurbishment since the smoking ban.
Banks's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood | 3.70 | | Not awful, but seriously, this beer can sing. This was bland and a little muddy. |
