Crowded at around 8pm.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wolf - Tasmanian Wolf5.00GoodGolden-coloured. I didn’t fully appreciate this one as by now my palate is somewhat jaded.
Celt Experience (now brands are owned by Evans Evans) - Continental Drift5.90GoodDark amber/red in colour. Described as a ‘Red Rye IPA’, this beer has nice hops and an over-dominant (to my mind) rye taste. Obviously strong.

19 Jan 2013 (Martin the Mildman)
Rammed when I arrived, empty when I departed. Something to do with a football match over East London.
BeerABVScoreNotes
WharfeBank - Try This3.70AcceptableI think it was pale once, but this resembled hop soup, being the last out of the cask I should think. Lots of citrus hop in this but not much else left to bind it together. My score 14 with C for quality (end of cask).
13 Jan 2013 (HSB)
Sunday morning. Been up to see steam on the Met. Looked for a coffee shop. All closed. Hals open beer beckoned.

This pub was at one time said to have the highest turnover of any pub in the UK. I’m not sure if that is still true, and I’ve certainly seen it busier than it was on this visit – but there must still have been several hundred customers present inside and out. Luckily, and especially by Wetherspoon standards, the service here is always very good.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Slater's - Haka5.20ExceptionalA fairly pale beer with an immediate hop aroma as soon as it is poured. Plenty of malt character and a full mouthfeel. But full of NZ hops, without going down the 'glass of grapefruit juice' trap. Superb - my beer of the year so far.
Batemans - Veto Ale4.30AcceptableA rather dull, amber bitter. A bit sweet, not a lot of hops in it. rather ordinary really.
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%)3.40Not Tried
Exmoor - Gold4.50Not Tried
Harviestoun - Bitter & Twisted3.80Not Tried
Titanic - Full Steam Ahead4.40Not Tried
Newby Wyke - White Squall4.80Not TriedOne of my favourites. But we were pub-crawling and there was no time for this one.
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Cocker Hoop (aka September Ale)4.60Not Tried
Blindmans - Mine Beer4.20Not Tried

BeerABVScoreNotes
Brewster's - American Chopper4.80GoodPale gold in colour with good citrus hop character balanced by some maltiness. Finish is of citrus hop. My score 15/20.
