Blackjack - Black Jack Stout5.00ExcellentA dry, black stout with good roast malt character and also a little marmite yeastiness. Dry, roast finish. My score 16/20.
Blackjack - First Deal4.40AcceptableA reddish brown bitter with a bitter hop character with little malt balance. Dry, bitter finish. My score 14/20.

A last knockings until close visit - venue still thriving.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Magic Rock - Rapture4.60GoodFull flavoured but I thought it jaded my taste buds as the pint went down in the glass

Tap tap - another last knockings visit. Raining heavily outside so all but the hardiest were ensconced in the bar area. I am increasingly convinced this could make a nice 24 hour venue if Network Rail would permit it!!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Swannay (formerly Highland) - St Magnus Ale5.20ExceptionalThere are also entries on site for 4.5% and 5% versions - this was blackboarded as 5.2% and left the lips stinging of hops. My third 5 star at this venue in three days

Tap tap - last knockings visit although the bar area seemed to get even more crowded after I settled in! Have these people not got homes to go to or is the night just young?
BeerABVScoreNotes
Redemption - Fellowship Porter5.10ExceptionalConsistent with its 5 star performance the previous evening
Liverpool Organic - Higsons Best Bitter4.10ExcellentWhether this resembles the original Higgo's I can not recall but it tasted like a traditional bitter

Sorry only noted 6 of the 8 beers on offer as I became immediately engrossed in conversation with a Yank staying at the Renaissance St Pancras Hotel and who knew the US brewing scene pretty well.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fyne - Jarl3.80ExcellentA citra hop hit.
Buxton - Imperial Black7.50ExcellentThis is listed as a Black IPA - the Yank said the US claims credit for this new contradiction in terms beer epithet. But, whatever, it gave a hoppy slap around the face!

Last knockings visit on a Friday night but range never disappoints.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Bristol Beer Factory - Independence4.60ExcellentChalk board showed ABV as 4.8% and named Dry-Hopped Independence. Good hop taste - drank beer as chaser with Steel City and Arbor Ales (Joint Venture) DCLXVI.
Arbor Ales / Steel City Brewing Collaboration - DCLXVI Black IPA6.60Excellent666 IBU. 6.66% ABV to be totally accurate. A collaboration between 2 breweries noted for having no fears of packing a hop punch. Drank as a chaser with Bristol Dry-Hopped Independence. Clearly a (Herbert) Pocketful of hops used and retained in taste for most of my journey home.

The pub is found in Euston, Central London, NW1 2EF.

Sited in the neo classical lodges at the front of Euston mainline railway station and operated by Bloomsbury Leisure Group. The West Lodge opened initially then the East Lodge opened as a cider bar but was later converted to matching the West Lodge drinks offerings. In each lodge the bar is on the ground floor with more seating and the toilets upstairs via a narrow spiral staircase. In the West Lodge there are 8 cask beers on air pressure and 19 keg taps are fitted on the back wall plus there are fridges of bottled beers on either side of the bar. Owned by the same people as the Sheffield Tap on the station there. No food is prepared here but pizzas may be ordered at the bar and then they are shipped in by a supplier.

We have visited this pub 81 times, seen 305 different beers and tried 105 of them.
