Arrived quite late at around 11 after having a meal over in Margate. Really good band called 'Crazy Train' were playing, I'd recommend seeing them. Pete the Landlord was in a merry mood and talked us through all the beers he's got coming up. He also mentioned that he's thinking of doing a 'Test your Strength' evening of beers all over 10%.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Oktoberfest5.20GoodVery good beer, bordering on excellent. Sweet with lots of caramel/toffee going on. Another good beer from Dark Star, although for me it was just a little on the sweet side.
Burton Bridge - Big Ben4.50AcceptableNot a bad beer, but it had a slight ashtray taste to it. A little honey and caramel, pretty uninteresting really. I think Burton Bridge really need to stop creating new beers and concentrate on improving their current roster.

2nd Thanet Cider and Perry Festival which was as the 1st year, excellent, a must event of the year now. Spent the first bit chatting with Blair and then sat with Eddie Gadd and his wife plus Steve and Kim talking about what makes a good cider/perry and then about beer in general and finally to Blair behind the bar about Sheffield and other northern cities. I hadn't had anything to eat all evening so I have a feeling that I was pretty drunk. Really can't tell.
BeerABVScoreNotes
De Molen - Amerikaans4.50ExceptionalDry hopped with Amarillo hops. The Amarillos just jumped out of the glass. If I'd known this was on the bar upstairs I wouldn't have touched a fruit based drink. This was so good I had a pint and a half in about 20 mins right at the end of the evening. I love hops.
16 Oct 2009 (Blair)
First night of the cider festival, I was helping out behind the bar. I didn't even have 1 half of cider the whole night, which in hindsight seems a little off. At one point a man came to me and exclaimed that I looked like a man who knows his cider prompting laughter from everyone else behind the bar. He couldn't have been more wrong if he tried. Good night with a solid crowd of people. Had a good chat with Ian which was getting more and more drunken on both sides as the evening wore on.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ringwood - Old Thumper (now superseded by 5.1% version - separate entry)5.60ExcellentRich, fruity and easy to drink. This, Adnams Broadside and Fuller's ESB really seem to have it down in the strong bitter department.
De Molen - Amerikaans4.50ExcellentThis was delicious, it may have been a different version of Amerikaans but I can't quite remember.
Old Mill - Fall Over4.50GoodFruity bitter with a little caramel and malt.
Cottage - Stanier Five5.00AcceptableNot at all bad for a cottage beer actually, almost gave it 3 and a half. Very dark brown with a strong chocolate flavour, not good quality chocolate more like the cheaper waxy chocolate of low quality easter eggs. Overall a little synthetic but drinkable enough.

10 Oct 2009 (Blair)
Arrived quite late but the place was still busy and a band was playing. Grabbed a seat upstairs as it was too busy by the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Old Ale (aka Old Chestnut)4.00ExcellentReally smooth ale, chocolatey with a bit of fruity. Can't detect any chestnut, but a lovely beer nonetheless.
Loddon - Hullabaloo4.20GoodDark, fruity and malty bitter. Really quite good.

Not as busy as it should be on a friday night, but enough people to produce a decent atmosphere. Sat up top and sank a couple.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Old Growler5.00ExcellentDark, chocolatey porter with just a little sourness. Went down a treat.

Popped in for a quick pint to see if anything interesting was on. Good line-up as it happens. No more bands on a sunday which is a bit of a shame.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakleaf (now see Fallen Acorn entries) - Blake's Gosport Bitter5.20ExcellentStrong dark bitter. A little coffee to go along with the malt and caramel. A really good beer.

After a scorching day at the beach, a few pints were definitely in order. Always busy on a sunday afternoon here, the band EK1 were playing and they were great.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - She Sells Sea Shells4.70ExcellentI look forward to this on a hot day, fruity with lots of hops and toffee. Lovely beer.
Hook Norton - Haymaker5.00GoodTasted like toffee apples. I really liked it.
Crouch Vale - Golden Duck3.80GoodReally refreshing hoppy pale ale. Lots of citrus and plenty of fruit. Great aummer beer.

Quite busy with a lot of people eating, I reckon that's probably the key to keeping this place busy on weeknights. Nice relaxed atmosphere as always.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Adnams - Broadside4.70GoodGood but not great pint of broadside. The usual fruity malty beer, but something missing. Still enjoyed it though.
Brentwood - Lumberjack5.20AcceptableNovelty ales are never too good in my experience, this was no exception. Very odd flavoured beer, hazy amber, very fruity with a bit of spice. Meh.

Band playing so it was really loud inside. Roasting indoors, we could only take it for a couple of pints then we had to seek out somewhere cooler!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Thoroughly Modern Mild6.00ExcellentA little warm, the opposite to normal in here. Still a really good beer. Rich and chocolatey, yet amber in colour.
Whitstable - Pearl of Kent4.50AcceptableNot sure what I was thinking, I already knew I wasn't overkeen on this. A little fruity with a a light hoppy undertone. Just a bit bland.
