6th year running I've been here on Christmas eve, no particular reason really. Very good atmosphere I wish every night of the year could be like this. Ended up sitting on a table of people I didn't know jabbering about nonsense. I love christmas eve.
Dark Star - Critical Mass | 7.80 | | Very rich and complex, little covonia and spice, loads of chocolate. Lovely beer, always a challengee to see how many you can drink before falling over. I managed four. |
Exmoor - Antler | 4.00 | | Malty, biscuity bitter. Quite good. |
Whitstable - Christmas Cake | 4.60 | | Evil, nasty, vile, hideous or any other word to describe something disgusting. It wasn't off, just a horrible beer. Avoid like the plague. It's not often I'll send something to the slops bucket, but there was no way myself or anyone else in the pub could drink more than 2 sips of this. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Ringwood - Old Thumper (now superseded by 5.1% version - separate entry) | 5.60 | Not Tried
Burton Bridge - Hearty Ale | 5.00 | Not Tried
Brains - Party Popper | 3.70 | Not Tried
18 Dec 2009 (Blair)
Another friday night and another visit to Churchill's. The usual crowd in, myself and my friends were here until closing, by which point we were all barely able to stand. Success!
Dark Star - Original | 5.00 | | Rich, viscous and dark. Everything you want in a dark beer. |
Cottage - Santa's Steaming Ale | 5.50 | | A good Cottage beer, quite a novelty. Dark, fruity beer with a little chocolate and xmas pudding. |
Burton Bridge - Bridge Bitter | 4.20 | | Alrightish bitter, malty with an odd aftertaste. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Ringwood - Old Thumper (now superseded by 5.1% version - separate entry) | 5.60 | Not Tried

Burton Bridge - Festival Ale | 5.50 | Not Tried
10 Dec 2009 (Blair)
The usual midweek trip to the pub, got here at around 8. There was a big group of us and we took up most of the upstairs. Beer line-up was a little boring perhaps.
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Old Original | 5.20 | | Fresh, malty beer with a little fruit and a hitn of chocolate. Rather nice. |
Burton Bridge - Old Expensive | 6.50 | | I'm confused, this came out of a barrel that said old expensive but last time I had this it was a dark beer. This time it was a brown-bitter colour. Strong malty flavour with a little drak fruit. |
Hydes - High and Dry | 4.90 | | Synthetic chocolate flavour, quite watery. Meh. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Tiger | 4.20 | Not Tried

Whitstable - Kentish Reserve | 5.00 | Not Tried
04 Dec 2009 (Blair)
It had been a full 2 weeks since our last trip here, so me and my friends came down for our standard night out. It was pretty busy tonight with a fair few young people in. Pete gave us the usual rundown of upcoming beers.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | | Sweet, hoppy and fairly malty. A delicious and refreshing amber ale. |
Dark Star - Double Chocolate Stout | 4.50 | | A very rich and thick stout. Loads of roasted malt and a fair bit of coffee, however, not as much chocolate as the name would have you believe. Fantastic beer though. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Theakston - Old Peculier | 5.60 | Not Tried
Ringwood - Old Thumper (now superseded by 5.1% version - separate entry) | 5.60 | Not Tried
Whitstable - Pearl of Kent | 4.50 | Not Tried
21 Nov 2009 (Blair)
A colleague was playing here with his band so I was obliged to come along, in fairness I end up here most saturdays anyway.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dark Conspiracy | 4.90 | | Rich, full in the mourh, fruity and chocolatey this is a wonderful beer. |
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Essex Border | 4.80 | | Yeasty, earthy tasting ale. Quite fruity with a little hop, alright. |
19 Nov 2009 (Blair)
In just after 10, virtually empty tonight. Chatted to Pete for a bit then sat up front. Why don't more people go out on weeknights?
Theakston - Old Peculier | 5.60 | | Fruity, tangy and smooth. Roasted malts and a little chocolate. Still not as good as I remember it a few years back. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Ringwood - Old Thumper (now superseded by 5.1% version - separate entry) | 5.60 | Not Tried

Whitstable - Pearl of Kent | 4.50 | Not Tried
Cottage - GWR | 5.40 | Not Tried
13 Nov 2009 (Blair)
Got here at around 9 with a large group of friends. This is a great pub to bring a group as there's something for everyone. Good lineup behind the bar and Pete was on great form as usual.
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Old Growler | 5.00 | | Great porter, lots of roasted malt maybe a little smoke. Very good. |
Ridleys - Witchfinder | 4.30 | | This tasted like a porter that's had some of the beer bottle penny sweets left to dissolve in it. Odd but it's actually rather pleasant. |
Brentwood - Hope & Glory | 4.50 | | Sweet and malty with a little toffee. Not at all bad. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Ringwood - Old Thumper (now superseded by 5.1% version - separate entry) | 5.60 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Festival | 5.00 | Not Tried

07 Nov 2009 (Blair)
Got here at just gone 11 to find Juicy Lucy playing, a pleasant surprise. Good crowd of people had come to see them so the place was heaving.
De Molen - Engel | 4.50 | | Big, sweet and fruity flavours with a hint of spice. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Ringwood - Old Thumper (now superseded by 5.1% version - separate entry) | 5.60 | Not Tried
31 Oct 2009 (Blair)
Good band on tonight, a blues-jam band type of afair. Not as busy as usual for a saturday night, but enough people to create a decent atmosphere.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - DogBolter Dark Porter | 5.60 | | This was on absolute top form today. Incredibly rich and moreish, chocolate and dates dominate with a lovely tartness. When at it's best I think this beer is nigh unbeatable. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | Also in fantastic form, great best bitter. Very malty and smooth, a classic. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Ringwood - Old Thumper (now superseded by 5.1% version - separate entry) | 5.60 | Not Tried
Whitstable - East India Pale Ale (or EIPA) | 4.10 | Not Tried
24 Oct 2009 (Blair)
Sat chatting to the barmaid for a while until a band started playing, not my cup of tea really and they were very loud. I sound so old, but nipped back to the artillery to escape the racket.
Dark Star - Porter (aka City) | 5.50 | | Hmmm, for a dark star beer this really is disappointing. Served a little too cold which didn't help it's cause. But just not enough flavour. A little roasted malt was about all I could taste. Pleasant, but I've come to expect better. Shows how good Dark Star is when I find a beer disappointing yet still rate it as good. |
Ringwood - Old Thumper (now superseded by 5.1% version - separate entry) | 5.60 | | Not as good as usual, maybe because it was a tad cold. Still a good fruity ale with a nice kick. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Whitstable - East India Pale Ale (or EIPA) | 4.10 | Not Tried
Burton Bridge - Festival Ale | 5.50 | Not Tried | Pete the Landlord gave me a taster, I wasn't impressed. |
