I had 20 mins to spare whilst Isabel and Jane attended some mad-hatter like thing in a park as part of Canterbury Festival week or something. 20 mins is plenty of time for a pub visit in my book.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - City Arms3.80AcceptableUmm this wasn't what I expected at all. It was like a watered down version of Torpedo with some lemon rind in (and a soapy body). I din't finish it

It's nearly 3 pm, inside it's empty, outside there are a couple of people on the new decking area. There are 7 cracking ales on plus the keg stuff, the high street is packed as are some of the mediocre pubs that I passed. Never mind at least I have my choice of seats.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Chocolate Vanilla Porter9.60ExcellentExcellent it is what it says it is the choc is mellowed by the vanilla, pitch black beige head, no alcohol heat at all just a subtle silky warmth at the back of the throat

A quick pint whilst walking from Canterbury Bus Station to the West Railway Station. Tom was busy in the brewery but came out for a chat and told me about their new bottling line. A good range of beers on offer but I have only listed one.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Canterbury Haka4.10GoodI was really enjoying this until I tried a sample of some Punch (keg) IPA which was so seriously hoppy that I could hardly taste anything afterwards.

Can't come to Canterbury without popping my head in to see what's on. Wasn't disappointed!

The article in today's Guardian about the best (and cheapest) places to eat in Canterbury caused a bit of a stir when I saw it on my iphone. Seems everyone agreed with the journalist's comments about the music! "Dire" was the word.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Swazzale4.80ExcellentBig soap sud head, a bit hazy, massive hit of lemon citrus and bitter finish. Not subtle but great.

The pub is found in Canterbury, Kent, CT1 2NR.

Brewery tap for Canterbury Brewers. The brewery is inside the building and may be viewed through an internal window. Upstairs and ground floor bars with the latter always open. 7 handpumps sported in each of the 2 bars. Substantial discount on real ales for Card carrying CAMRA members - at April 2013 this was 10% on own brewed beer - ask if there is a discount on food too as this is allegedly 10% too. Consists of two bar areas - one downstairs adjacent to the brewery and another up some steps to a mezzanine level. Originally located in White Horse Lane near the Cherry Tree pub. In addition to its excellent home brewed ales the pub is getting a reputation for tasty and good value food. Moved in October 2018 to a new location in Stour Street "lock stock and barrel".

We have visited this pub 144 times, seen 99 different beers and tried 74 of them.
