I was coming back from The Bull at Horton Kirby and had to change trains so thought I would have a wander around. I think this only opened at 6 as I was the second person in. Therefore very quiet. I sat and listened to something on my MP3 player, can't remember what, but it made me laugh.

It was Chris Excell's fault I ended up here. He told me that this pub had won the West Kent Pub of the Year, so I had to come didn't I? Good Harvey's tied pub with an excellent juke box.

Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00ExcellentBit sweet maybe to be perfect. But still enormously drinkable. Great in mouth. Lovely aroma.
Harvey's - Armada Ale4.50GoodIntensely drinkable, tangerine is still there along with the Harvey's yeast. Good hop on finish. A little harder in the mouth than I remember. Bit watery to be honest.

Well I had NEARLY got to the wedding by this point. Lovely Grade II listed building with an excellent array of Harvey's beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Elizabethan Ale8.20GoodDeep chestnut colour, thin beige head. Sweetish malt aroma, sweet dark fruits. Some coffee. Sweetish barley wine. Bit of petrol on aroma. Some raisin. Bit of dryness on end. Some juicyness, but overall sweetish.

Friday lunch time and not very busy but the juke box was on so it had a bit of atmosphere. I would guess this is a cosy pub at night but in the harsh light of day it was a bit daunting.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00ExcellentLoverly beer with the Harvey's yeast and hops flavour.
Harvey's - Armada Ale4.50ExcellentMarmalade coloured bitter with a full flavour and hints of apple and orange peel and that distinctive Harvey's yeast taste
Harvey's - XX Dark Mild (or Sussex XX Mild)3.00AcceptableBlack beer that tasted of very little.
Harvey's - Hadlow Bitter3.50Not Tried

Harvey's pub south of the city centre. Must have changed hands since I went in the spring as all The Beatles memorabilia has gone. Still does 4 Harvey's beers though and does them well.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Armada Ale4.50GoodOrange colour with little white head. Nice though with Harveys yeasty nose with apple and orange peel. Good hops
Harvey's - Hadlow Bitter3.50AcceptableCopper colour. Quite a light bitter with nice hoppy aroma, not a massive flavour but nice and slightly resinous hop finish

Pleasant 2 room wood heavy pub in south of city owned by Harveys of Lewes. Upto 4 beers on. Popular gig venue with Beatles memorabilia on the walls
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Armada Ale4.50GoodDark gold in colour. Light fruit and malt in mouth with Harvey's yeasty nose. Very pleasant and refreshing beer with a fruity spicy hop finish
Harvey's - XX Dark Mild (or Sussex XX Mild)3.00AcceptableDark ruby. Slight Harvey's yeasty nose. Some malt, thin in mouth and yeasty finish. A bit bland for me
Harvey's - Porter4.80AcceptableBlack in colour. Slight taste of liquorice, some burnt malt, dry finish. Good representation of an old style porter. Interesting, but not for a session

The pub is found in Maidstone, Kent, ME15 6EU.

Two room pub on Upper Stone Street, a busy main road. Lots of old beams and comfy sofas. Re-opened on 18th October 2018 after an extended period of closure when its future seemed very uncertain. Now has one "free of tie" handpump in addition to the Harvey's range ones. Closed again in early 2021 and firmly closed ever since. Future must be seen as in doubt now.

We have visited this pub 76 times, seen 27 different beers and tried 23 of them.
