Visits Details

22 May 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Exceedingly busy Sunday lunchtime.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Golden Age4.60ExcellentThis ticked all the boxes for me. Well balanced and plenty of body. Good earthy tastes and ever so slightly malty. Wonderful.
Titanic - Shugborough Mi Lady's Fancy4.60GoodOK but too similar and not as good as other Titanic ales. Nicely hopped and slightly malty, reasonable body and quite smooth.
17 May 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Very quiet Tuesday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hop Back - Old Master4.30GoodA lovely dark mild. Nuts and chocolate in good balance. Slightly thin on the body. Pleasant drink.
15 May 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Great Sunday evening session.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Plum Porter4.90GoodIt does exactly what it says on the pump clip. It's a porter style ale with a plummy aroma and a plummy taste. Very plummy. I wouldn't want more than a couple of pints.
08 May 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Miserable rainy weather outside but good company and conversation inside.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 54.40AcceptableAnother disappointment, slightly biscuity and slightly bitter but not much else. Lack of balance and poor body.
Castle Rock - Harvest Pale3.80AcceptableVery disappointed. Looked forward to my first taste of this beer but it was weak in colour, weak in body and weak in taste (slightly bitter). Am I expecting too much for £2.40 a pint?
01 May 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Sunday dinner time and only half a dozen people in the pub, presumably everybody is away for the bank holiday? Nevertheless, good beer to be had.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Springhead - Black Tom3.80GoodBlack, nutty, chacolate and not heavy. A really pleasant drink.
WharfeBank - Slingers Gold3.90GoodMiddle of the road ale, not too malty, not too sweet or bitter. Not too bad.
Springhead - Charlie's Angel4.50AcceptableA bit too sweet for me and there didn't seem to be much else coming through. Disappointing.
29 Apr 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Whilst a wedding party occupied the function room (coincidental so I am told), and the beer garden was busy, the bar / lounge remained quiet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Royal Wedding Ale4.60AcceptableThis is remarkably similar to another Titanic Ale (can't quite put my finger which one). A little malt, not bitter and not sweet with a fairly dry finish. Could describe a whole host of ales but an O.K. pint.
27 Apr 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
No Bishop's Farewell, outrage! Thank goodness for JHB and Liverpool Organic. Damn, thats just gone!
BeerABVScoreNotes
White Horse - Wayland Smithy4.40GoodA nice combination of earthy flavours, some malt, some fruit and some hops - all well balanced and in proportion.
Burton Bridge - Night Of The Garter4.50PoorA one off brew to celebrate some wedding or another? Thin, malty and sweet. Not a pleasant experience. I do hope this was a one off.
24 Apr 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
A quiet Easter Sunday, everybody must be on holiday. A few games of pool and some good beer. Very enjoyable.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Liverpool Organic - Liverpool Pale Ale4.00ExcellentA superb bitter, pale ale without being overpowering. Light in colour and of medium body. A premium ale.
16 Apr 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Incredibly quiet Saturday evening, nice day for the beer garden.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - English Glory4.50GoodAn archetypal modern English ale, difficult to pin down other than to say "a jolly decent pint".
Wye Valley - Butty Bach4.50AcceptableNot the best from the Wye Valley Brewery, too sweet in the finish for me. Disappointing given other peoples recommendations.
10 Apr 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Very bust Sunday afternoon, function room, restaurant and bar in full swing.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Stonehouse - Station Bitter3.90ExcellentOne of the best session beers around. Exceptional at best, very good at worst. Amber colour with plenty of malt, fruity flavours and good body. Not quite a full bitter.
Titanic - Iceberg4.10GoodNot on top form today. I know Iceberg to be an exceptional premium ale with a crisp, citrussy bitterness - this was a little bit out of sorts - but good.
Titanic - Anchor4.10AcceptableIn comparison to other Titanic brews, this was not amongst the best. It was spoilt by a slight acidity which overpowered other tastes. Nevertheless I will try again.
