Pleasant spring evening sitting in the beer garden. Shame the beer wasn't up to scratch!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Breconshire - Brecon County Ale3.70PoorIn fairness to this ale, I will have to try again at a different location. This was tasteless coloured water. I do not seem to get on too well with Breconshire brews, but I do try to be objective and I will try again elsewhere.
Breconshire - Red Dragon4.70PoorIn fairness to this ale, I will have to try it again at a different location. This particular pint was just a sweet coloured water!
27 Mar 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Great Sunday afternoon atmosphere, lively conversation.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - JHB3.80ExcellentTypically Oakham, wonderfully crisp with the usual citrus bitterness. One of their best.
Elgood's - Snakeslayer4.50ExcellentDark colour with lots of chocolate and caramel. Subtle caramel aftertaste. Well balancrd and smooth. Pleasant drinking
20 Mar 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Very busy Sunday afternoon, great atmosphere. Plenty of good banter.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Batemans - Dark Mild3.00AcceptableWill have to try this again as it didn't quite live up to its reputation. Caramel flavours but followed by slight acidity which spoilt the overall taste. Reasonable body for 3.0%.
Otley - Pontypridd4.00AcceptableAn odd assortment of smells and flavours. Definite citrus, probably grapefruit, and other tastes and aromas that we couldn't quite pin down. Nevertheless in an effort to try, we went back for another pint.
Titanic - Nine Tenths Below5.90AcceptableLots of nutty flavours and very obviously a powerful brew, but lacks subtlety
14 Mar 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Quite busy tonight, a salsa class in the function room. However, the main lounge was pleasantly busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Styrian Goldings4.20AcceptableLight golden in colour with pleasant aroma. Faint citrus taste with a dry finish.
13 Mar 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Surprisingly quiet for a Sunday afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wentworth - Amber Gambler4.10AcceptableOne of the oddest beers I have ever tasted. Smoked fish aroma and a smoked fish taste. Fortunately I liked smoked fish. Very strange.
12 Mar 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Akk the regulars in good form.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Steerage (superseded by 3.8% version - see separate entry)3.50ExcellentGood session beer, nice amber colour, plenty of taste leaving a bitter finish. Can't believe its only 3.5%. Crafted beer at its best.
11 Mar 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Good company and conversation. Pleasant early evening session.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Black Ice4.10ExcellentWonderful dark flavours, well balanced and good body. Lives up to its notoriety.
05 Mar 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Pleasant, relaxing Saturday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Orkney (Sinclair) - Dragonhead4.00ExcellentDeliciously dark with lots of treacle toffee and burnt caramel. Medium body. Very pleasant.
Bradfield - Farmers Blonde4.00GoodAs I watched this being pulled, I thought 'another beer tickers' insipid blonde pale ale'. Far from it. A well balanced, medium bodied ale with a pleasant citrus taste leavong an arrowroot biscuit aftertaste. Very nice.
03 Mar 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Wonderfully quiet, early spring evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Stonehouse - Wheel Tappers4.50GoodNot the best wheat beer I;ve tasted, but not bad. Not as smooth as other Stonehouse brews, but has good balance and plenty of flavour.
Abbeydale - Dr Morton's Cat-a-tonic4.30AcceptableNeither one thing or the other. Very light golden in colour. Not particularly bitter, light in body and easy on the palate.
26 Feb 2011 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Has the world come to an end, where was everybody? Oh!, apparently all in the top room watching rugby. Nice and quiet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Baby it's cold outside4.20PoorThis is one for the beer tickers. Doesn't live up to the propoganda given on the Kelham Island webxite. Weak body, weak bitter taste and unsurprisingly bland finish. Whilst not unpleasant, the real ale drinker deserves more for his hard earnt cash. A mistake not to be repeated.
