BeerABVScoreNotes
Kirkstall - Black Band Porter5.50ExcellentBlack porter with a full bodied mix of bitter hop and toffee malt. Bitterness just gets the edge, carrying through to the finish. My score 16/20.
12 Apr 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy with a London brewers festival in progress.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kernel (The Kernel) - Imperial Stout7.40ExcellentPowerful strong stout full of roast nalt flavours. High hop rate too so quite bitter but also smooth and full bodied. My score 16/20.
10 Apr 2011 (Martin the Mildman)

BeerABVScoreNotes
Ha'Penny - Gog Magog Golden Ale5.00AcceptableBittersweet golden ale with some hop bitterness continuing to the finish. My score 14/20.
01 Mar 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Welsh beer festival in progress here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rhymney - Dark4.00ExcellentDark brown mild style beer with full flavoured malty character. Flavours of toffee, chocolate and coffee are all present. Little hop character but a fruity finish. A classic Welsh Dark Ale. My score 17/20.
Bryncelyn - Buddy Marvellous4.00GoodMalty but fairly bitter dark brown mild. Low hopping with a slight fruity edge in the finish. My score 15/20.
Waen - Tidy Pint4.00AcceptablePale bitter with a bitter hop flavour and a dryish finish. My score 14/20.
26 Feb 2011 (Ian)
Ran into some people from the Brewery History Society who had had a meeting upstairs. Quite a lively discussion about the first drummer for Rush on their first album and how to save the public library in East Byfleet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Three Tuns - XXX4.30AcceptableLucky to see this outside of its native Shropshire. Gold lasting white head. Slightly green apple. Slightly bitter too on finish. Its ok good mouthfeel good finish but a touch of green apple.
Vale of Glamorgan (VOG) - Cwrw Dewi5.00AcceptableClear dark chestnut colour. Lasting beige head. Fairly tasteless to bo honest. Some malt on finish. Some malt fruit.
09 Jan 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Special opening on a Sunday for the launch of Kernel Brewery's new Black IPA.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kernel (The Kernel) - Black IPA6.80ExceptionalColour is very dark brown. Close your eyes while drinking and you'd think it was pale. Fantastic American hop character with sweet, fruity and citrus flavours dominating. The malt base is not overpowering like some black IPAs but just in the background to give some base to the hop flavours. A true classic. My score 18/20.
24 Dec 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
BeerABVScoreNotes
St Austell - Baz Treeny Red Ale6.00ExcellentA strong red ale done very well indeed with just the right amount of sweetness without becoming cloying. An excellent balance of malt and hop gives a beautifully balanced and full flavoured red ale. My score 17/20.
21 Dec 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
BeerABVScoreNotes
St Austell - Chocolate Wheat5.00PoorAn opaque dark brown beer, any sweetness from the chocolate overpowered by a sour, wheaty flavour. This beer didn't work for me. My score 9/20.
14 Dec 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Summit4.20GoodVery pale and hoppy with lots of citrus flavour. My score 15/20.

The pub is found in Southwark, Central London, SE1 9AG.

Small pub on the north side of Borough Market run by the same people who own the Utobeer bottled beer stall in the market itself. The bar has 3 hand pulls serving UK cask beers and 6 taps supplying continental and world beers. An extensive bottle beer selection is also available from the fridges behind the bar. The bar has stripped wood floors, pale beige walls and a historic Pilkington glass ceiling. A decked patio provides extra space and seating. Definitely an excellent addition to the Southwark beer scene.

We have visited this pub 151 times, seen 348 different beers and tried 249 of them.
