Beer festival here with casks on stillage to the rear of the pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Strathaven - Summer Glow3.90AcceptablePale bitter with an earthy hop character and a dryish malt character. Dry, earthy finish. My score 14/20.
Parish - On Ur Bike4.40PoorGolden in colour, sweet and faintly malty with an appley taste and little hop character. Hint of aldehyde. My score 11/20.
Tap House - Kingdom Victory4.50PoorRuby coloured bitter that was suffering from aldehyde - i.e. appley taste with little or no hop or malt character coming through. My score 11/20.

A fairly quiet lunchtime. I was on my way to the bus station, but this pub had a sign informing me that it was Derby Camra pub of the year, so I decided to catch a later bus. A large bar area, with a real log fire.

Beer festival in progress so fairly busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cropton (see also Great Yorkshire) - Blackout5.00ExcellentDark brown porter style beer dominated by a vanilla toffee flavour that might be a bit overpowering for some but worked for me. My score 16/20.
Holden's - Golden3.90GoodWithout the Glow at a lower strength, this was a fairly malty golden beer with a bittersweet finish. My score 15/20.
Blue Monkey - Cathedral Quarter Ale3.90GoodNew house beer for the Old Silk Mill, this is a very pale and hoppy beer with a good balance of flavours. My score 15/20.

Mid afternoon and came here as pub number 4 on the Derby crawl. Down by the river and in a very nice part of Derby. The kind of place where I would have been happy to try the JHB and the Schiehallion.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Boggart - Rum Porter4.60ExcellentOutstanding dark choc cherry liquer flavour.
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Kipling5.20AcceptableSlightly sweaty sox hop. But still lovely, really aggressive gooseberry on finish, but a bit too sweaty sox overall.
