Lunchtime. Kitchen closed for a fortnight so only a few drinkers in. The tenancy changed hands last year. Friendly bartender, two log fires on the go. Masterbrew at a very reasonable £4.20 a pint.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | | This was in top condition. |

Sunday lunchtime meeting for our cycling group. Rather lacklustre today - the kitchen was not open for some reason so just a few drinkers in. The log fire in the main bar area was barely alight - warmest place was the toilet! Despite the Shep’s tie this is a lovely rural venue - I hope it survives.

Very welcoming festive feel with a big log fire. Just after noon on a cold, grey, damp,Sunday. Half a dozen intrepid old cyclists in (including me). A few early locals in. I seem to be revisiting pubs from my distant past this month. No longer a bar billiards table here and the barperson told me that the Sheps lease ends in 2024 and the property will revert to the adjacent Fitzwalter estate.
Shepherd Neame - Whitstable Bay Pale Ale | 3.90 | | Top condition- very good after the Masterbrew. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | | Bit of a twang. |

Snowdrop Day at the Gardens.Flying visit to get away from the wind. Late lunchtime:busy with drinkers and lunchers. I think there's a new Guv since last time.
Shepherd Neame - The Faversham Steam Brewery - Whitstable Bay Pale Ale | 3.90 | | Fused, with sweeter notes predominating. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried | |

My annual flying visit:fire in the hearth, companionable groups of drinkers on a sunny but windy Sunday afternoon.Unfortunately, the IPA clip was reversed.
Shepherd Neame - The Faversham Steam Brewery - Whitstable Bay Pale Ale | 3.90 | | Initially pleasantly hoppy, but a metallic tang developed. |

A quick pint to warm up:We'd been selling plants up the lane, and it was freezing. The bar was empty, a few folk enjoying lunch in another room.Had a chat with the new landlord:he's making it more of a village local, again.Glad to see a bar billiards table.
Shepherd Neame - Amber Ale | 4.50 | | I hadn't had this before:tastey malts with intriguing farmyard hops, without the astringency of Master Brew. Dark amber. Reaffirms my faith in Sheps. |

My first visit here since Shepherd Neame took over this pub. I really like this pub and I recalled past times when we used to trek across fields to get to this pub. The food offering here is Czech or Polish so that seems a good reason to return.

We'd been at a plant fair at the Big House in the February mirk, and my feet were frozen: a brisk march to the Fitz' was indicated. A group of locals and their dogs in the public bar-diners in the saloon.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | | Master Brew isn't always my ideal beer, but this time it was really fresh, with a resinous quality that lifted the wintry gloom. |

This pub has changed hands recently and the dining area looks to have been revamped. However, the drinking area has remained as it was.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | | Good pint of masterbrew, but unfortunatley this was the only beer on. Well served though and not unpleasant. |
