Swift pint early Wednesday evening as I was passing. Just one other customer in who was playing pool with the landlord. No food still here. I don’t understand how there can be 4 real ales on with the (seemingly lack of) trade here. But the McCanns was good, albeit now £5.10 a pint.

Quiet, free roast spuds and a wood fire on. Two other cyclists made it - we arrived in the dry and then supped as the rain started and got harder. What I do for a Sunday lunchtime pint. One other Harvey ale on as - I think that 4 ales is too much for the turnover here.

Good Sunday lunchtime cycle meet. The landlord was, as ever, very attentive with the real ales. Talk of the lack of pub choice now in the Barfrestone and Shepherdswell area.

Cycle meet lunchtime, six of us nearly doubled the numbers here. Still a wet only pub but we were given sausage rolls and olives. There is some exterior work underway - not sure how this is viable commercially but I hope it keeps going.

Lunchtime cycle meet. 7 of us. Still just a wet pub - but free sausage rolls on a Sunday. The beer choice was very good and the landlord attentive to end-of-barrel situations. I understand that he has fallen out with the local Parish Council over the ACV listing.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Georgian Dragon4.70ExcellentSuper pint “hint of fruitcake”. St George’s Day brew.
Shivering Sands - Knock John Amber4.60ExcellentFresh on after the Georgian. Light, citrusy with a good hoppy bite.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00Not TriedEnd of barrel accepted by one of our group - but landlord wasn’t happy with the look of it and a few sips in replaced it with one straight from the new cask - it was very good apparently.

Popped in with Martin for a pint as he lived nearby and neither of us had been before. Friendly place with lots of the older generation playing cards or supping beer. Large inglenook fireplace with a wood burner throwing out heat. Top pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - XX Dark Mild (or Sussex XX Mild)3.00ExcellentLovely stuff. I like low ABV beers like this. Dark, hint of roasted malt, watery. Shame we could only stay for one.
