My favourite of all the Eastbourne pubs. We arrived at a quiet time and were given a guided tour of the cellar. There are some very interesting eleventh and twelfth century features down there including a tunnel that was used by monks to make their way from the church to the pub.

Harvey's - Old Ale (or Sussex XXXX Old Ale)4.30ExcellentHarvey's Old at its best. We were told that this is the last cask of the season and it will be replaced by Harvey's Porter.

Noon on a Tuesday and I was the first customer and was able to sit wherever I liked. I chose the rear bar which is normally filled with diners as I had never been in there before. Very friendly staff who were impressed with my Harvey's face mask. Very covid secure with no entry until you are signed in and your hands are sanitised. The staff were fully conversant with the current terms and conditions of the Harvey's loyalty card scheme (which has been discontinued) and I had no difficulty in getting my two free pints.

Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00ExceptionalAbsolutely top notch Harvey's Sussex. I could not fault it, and these were the first two out.

Afternoon visit. We were greeted by staff on entry who recorded our contact details and informed of the pub's COVID precautions which are above average. Table sevice and card payments only. Friendly atmosphere made for a most enjoyable visit.

Mid-evening. Olde Worlde charm, New World prices - ChrisE you had a lucky escape on the Porter £4.50 - why are tied houses the most expensive? On the plus side a huge dragon’s tooth oak beam feature in the corner of the ceiling with a 10 foot spine.

Harvey's - Porter4.80AcceptableRather sickly sweet in my opinion.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00Not TriedOf course it was on in a Harvey’s tied house.

Early afternoon visit. Fairly quiet with a group of diners in the back room and a few drinkers in the front bar where I was. My first pint was just £1 with a Harvey's Loyalty card. I was hoping to get a pint of Porter with the same card for £3 but that beer was only delivered this morning and was not ready. I will have to return to a Harvey's managed house for that offer.

Another classic Harvey's pub with a good welcome. I did not note which other Harvey's beers were on offer but there was a good range.

Late afternoon to early evening, I'd missed this earlier as I'd arrived late this morning and was on my 'to do list' and glad we did, gloomy interior, low ceilings beams and all, superb!

Morning visit on a warm and sunny Saturday, the door was opened promptly at 11am and I sat in a corner in the front bar and enjoyed a pint prior to meeting up with a friend later in the day for a tour of Harvey's pubs.

I have visited this pub several times in the past, but I never really liked it, and found it unwelcoming. I went today to get a stamp in my Harvey Hopper book, and I must say the pub seems to have improved considerably, friendly helpful bar staff, and considerably more people drinking beer than I have seen in the past.
