The George Hotel (Shepherd Neame)

Lunchtime and mostly diners, including us, as opted for a good value and quality lunch with ample time before our next bus to The Halfway House. Just one barman available with a couple ordering for a larger group meant a fair wait to be served.
| Shepherd Neame - Creekside Juicy IPA | 4.00 | | Warm and with a slight sour twang, my hint at it may benefit from a couple of pints being pulled through first met with a wall of excuses including 'it's been hot lately'. Ho-hum.... |
| Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale) | 4.20 | | My friend tried this and once it met with disapproval from both the barman and the manager who'd just appeared was changed with good grace for a glass of wine. |

A late lunchtime visit between bus changes and a calm and relaxed atmosphere with blues music softly playing in the background. I opted not to remain here until the Larkins Alehouse opens at 16.00 and head off to Benenden instead.
| Shepherd Neame - Late Red | 4.50 | | A completely different experience to my previous pint of this at The Bear, Faversham. Sweeter, less resinous and sulphurous instead had spicy cloves and blackcurrant notes. |
| Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | | A slight metallic sour twang to this. |
| Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale) | 4.20 | Not Tried | |

I had around 30 minutes to spare before Larkins Alehouse 14.00 opening so this cosy peaceful hotel bar with just a handful in sufficed. Only one cask ale available.
| Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale) | 4.20 | | I was expecting a pint of warm sour vinegar thus am pleased to say just the opposite, near on perfect temperature condition and the nutty malty pepperiness associated with this beer. |

Mid evening visit to this patrician hotel bar. We sat in the small snug by the hotel's reception desk.

15 Aug 2012 (Wittenden)
Family dinner. Busy with diners and drinkers on a warm August evening.
| Shepherd Neame - Whitstable Bay Pale Ale | 3.90 | | I know that it is fashionable in certain quarters to knock Shep's beers, but this was very refreshing on a humid evening:citrus with some malt body, but with some of that characteristic harshness that goes with the territory.Had a wonderful hop aroma: smelt of proper beer. |
