Whitstable - Native Bitter3.70GoodGood condition and livelier than the half I had in Dover yesterday - but not a memorable beer.

I do not get here very often as it is somewhat isolated, it is very much changed since my last visit, and very food orientated which it needs to be to survive in this location. It was full tonight but we were able to find a table in the bar area that was not reserved for diners and enjoy our beers. It was nice to see that the new owners have found room for a Bar Billiards table.

We haven't been here for some years but on a friend's recommendation we thought we would give it a try. We arrived at lunchtime with some in the restaurant but, over our visit, more arrived. Basically this is a family run pub with Italian connections who took over about a year ago. They were very welcoming and provided a very tasty meal at a reasonable price with attentive service.

Pitched my tent in the field at the back (free if you eat here) and got soaked. Then sampled the wonderful food and felt much better ... but eat so much I wanted to lie down - and could! - as my tent with comfy bed was just a few yards away! A few other camper in. Not that busy but a nice friendly atmosphere.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50ExcellentWow - this was really lovely. So nice I didn't try any of the others. Badges on the hand pulls but all of the beer is brought from the back room - straight from the barrels.

Came here with a work colleague for a Friday lunch. We were going to The Tiger, just up the road, but the car park was packed, so we decided to come here. We were surprised as it was mid January and no one should have any spare money, but the car park here was busy too. Harry has imported his excellent dry humour to this pub and for my first visit I was very impressed. The building inside is lovely with lots of exposed wood beams giving a country pub feel (which it is). 4 handpumps, only one in use. Lunch was superb, all locally sourced food (meat from a butcher in Aldington, the sausages were amazing) and homemade puddings including the banoffee pie. Will definitely be back.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00GoodHarry said that no one else in the area does it and it proved more popular than the Fuller's London Pride he had as his regular beer before. Typical Harvey's yeasty aroma, with good sweetish malt in mouth.
