We'd come for a meal on a mild February Saturday evening, and discussed the logistical problems occasioned by the deployment of elephants in the Claudian invasion of these islands.

We'd walked over Chapel Bank from Reading Street.Always great to see this pub hove into view across the Levels. We sat outside in the anti cyclonic gloom:the pub was healthily busy with diners and drinkers within.

Late afternoon to early evening busy with all of the sheltered outside seating occupied and a few inside too. My first visit here aided by us having a driver who's on a diet which excludes alcohol!

Just after noon. Already busy with a number of customers in the sunny front paved area. Very pleasant staff - and I was given a fascinating paper map (used as a dining place mat) of the area in the 14th century. Stone - and Rye - were both islands at this time.
